I think the conventional wisdom about doing upgrades on one channel and then listening to whether there's enough improvement to justify the whole thing is a good idea. As for op amps, the 2134 is nice-sounding IMHO. But you may hear significant difference with that only at the inputs, gain stages, a...

Realistic 31-1987 or 31-1988 five-band graphics are all-discrete, all-inductor, and not mythical at all--I've got both. Never paid more than 20 bucks a piece. Fairly broad Q, nice and chunky in the lows and mids. Definitely colored, but musical. I replaced the EQ caps, built-up the power-supply a bi...

I already own a hammer and it didn't cost $25 either. I think I'll be passing audio signal through my microphone. Post the birdhouse picture when your done though. Sounds like fun. On my budget, it was either the hammer or the mic. The thinking was, can't pass audio through a hammer (usually...

THEFT IN LOS ANGELES!

On Monday April 30th, approximately 2:00pm, the following items were among those stolen from my bandmate's house in Whittier, California: Aria Pro II electric guitar, dark red, mid-1980s Danelectro electric bass, sparkle blue, early 2000 Danelectro twelve-string electric, white, mid-2000s Please con...

I love dynamics! Natural-sounding and indestructible too. I'm tracking whole tunes with nothing but an EV RE-55 through a VMP-2. Sounds good on bass and guit cabs, acoustic guitar, percussion, vocals, wherever you point it. . . . Electrovoice needs to reissue that mic!

I have some of those gray isolation headphones (without the speakers) and plan to put these speakers in them: http://www.mouser.com/index.cfm?handler=displayproduct&lstdispproductid=281836 Part number 25SP500. It's an Alnico magnet 600ohm speaker with a claimed 20-20K frequency response, $5.14 each....

Funny thread. I don't know anything aboyt the RS 7-band, but the RS 5-band model 31-1987 is pretty sweet. All-discrete, all inductor, not an op-amp or gyrator in sight. Bump up the power-supply caps and put film caps in the signal path, and it's one friendly-sounding EQ. Cost me about the same as di...
