Topic: making a record with only one model of mic

I think I could do an entire record with an electro-voice re55. Distorted guitars would take a bit of tinkering, but otherwise it would not require much compromise. Plus one for RE-55. BTW, distorted guitars no problem: get the speaker cab two to three feet off the floor; put the mic head about 12"...

This thread has grown into a dinosaur that's so gigantic, it's head no longer knows what it's tail is doing. . . . I posted this in 2006 on this same thread: I don't know anything aboyt the RS 7-band, but the RS 5-band model 31-1987 is pretty sweet. All-discrete, all inductor, not an op-amp or gyrat...

. . . I almost convinced 'em all this thing is a fake - whaddya tryna do? . . . Apparently no one has noticed that, where you failed, I have succeeded completely. I'm now choosing to reveal the evil brilliance of my original plan only because in the meantime I bought up the last RS "super EQs" rema...

Did anyone really believe it existed, for more than maybe 5 minutes? The whole fun of this thread was how everyone knew but played along. Way to go, buzzkills. Still, it's impressive it went on for six years! Nice save! 8) Joe, do you have a 1987? I am curious as to the size of the inductors inside...

Well, a wise man once said "The wish is the father of the thought, " and another wise man said "If it sounds good, it is good." FWIW, I think you will find truth and happiness in reconciling the two ideas. . . .

Foolery, schmoolery. The 7-band, black-face, Realistic EQ: http://www.ubertar.com/rseq.jpg I'd put up $100 vs. anyone who says it's a fake. Any takers? Despite the fact that it's looking pretty hopeless here, I'll repeat what I and others have already said: there's no "Holy Grail, black-face, Neve/...

Damn tomfoolery is right! I keep trying to set the record straight, but it's like writing with disappearing ink. . . .

Eh... what's that have to do with my quote above? I just called BS after people didn't see the light after 16 pages. Similar to what you just said but not caring about the reason why. If this is at me, I'm basically agreeing with you, calling it BS. (Somebody called you an "atheist," then you said ...

http://www.ubertar.com/rseq.jpg Don't fall for it, folks. Re: The build in question

Nope, God I have seen. 16 pages of discussion, still nobody can produce a picture or model number of this EQ. Listen, the whole was thing started by some smart-alec (on TOMB I think) who joked about giving his tracks some mojo with an imaginary Neve/Realistic EQ. The "best" and supposed "wor...

Just fired up my 238 again recently. About ten years ago I bought a stash of Quantegy C60s and had the machine specifically biased for them. I can't say whether the shorter tape is easier on the motor, but I'm pretty sure it records better, remains stable, with fewer drop-outs. . . .

Facts: --Realistic/Radio Shack models 31-1986, 31-1987, 31-1988 are five-band, all inductor, class A, single 44-volt rail. Identical circuits can be found in certain ADC/Teac Soundshaper models. --Realistic/Radio Shack model 31-1989 is seven-band with the top three bands inductor-based, bottom four...

Cool circuit, thanks for posting! BTW, you know, that's essentially the tone control circuit in a Big Muff fuzz? http://freecircuitdiagram.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Big-Muff-Distortion-Pedal-Tone-Control.gif The main difference is, the symmetrical component values of the ED circuit give a "flat...
