Topic: getting more volume out of a tube amp

Um, LOWER impedence cabinets are louder. So if you've got a 4 ohm cab, a 2 ohm cabinet would be louder. But a lot of amps can't do a 2 ohm load, check the back of the amp. I'm an old guy blah blah blah but I know my band usually sounds better at lower volumes. (But it's alt country.) What if the oth...

It's three channels, right? Maybe "Accordion" "Bass" and "Microphone" or some such?

Ampeg

I've got an Ampeg B 12 N (smaller, lighter, maybe 20 watts). It sounds great, and the B12's go for less than a B15. If you find one, consider it. At a club I used a more recent solid state Ampeg belonging to someone else, it sounded good and cut through the mix really well. Ampeg B100R or other smal...

Go to www.dealmac.com and look for a cheap external hard drive. 7200 RPM, 3.5 inch. I've heard Firewire has better sustained transfer than USB 2 but I got nothing to back that up. I don't think you hurt 002 performance by using a Firewire drive, that's all I've ever used.

Yup, I remember the Squalls fondly. I have their EP still. My first bar gig as an underage kid was with Banned 37 opening for Love Tractor at the "Fern Bar" incarnation of the 40 Watt (2 levels, dressing rooms upstairs). And I think of David Barbe as ex-Mercyland, not ex-Sugar. And I know I saw him ...

Shit. Y'all are taking me back. I was there from 1979 (middle school) to 1993 (doomed marriage and move to Baltimore). I've been gone a long time. But the "other" remarkable studio is John Keane's, where old, old bands of mine used to do demos. One of my bands, Woggles, did some tracks there later o...

Technically, ribbons are dynamic mics. And a whole lot of them are fig 8's. If a ribbon would do it, look at the shinybox and so forth ribbons that are a lot like the Tape Op ribbon I've got. Pretty good sounding, useful thing to have around.

Look for one of these:

http://news.harmony-central.com/Newp/1997/WZ20-8-2.html

It's an Allen & Heath mixer with 8 busses designed for 8 track recording and monitoring. I thought about buying one a couple times in the last 10 years, but
never did.

"Words and melody" are the things lawyers look at in copyright infringement lawsuits for pop music. A I-IV-V progression can be used to accompany a huge number of songs and classical compositions, for example, so you can't really copyright that.

Tannoy PBM, orban, gate

Orban 622b parametric EQ $175 Orban De-esser, 3 channel $100 Audiologic 4 channel gate -- somebody hacksawed off part of the rack ear to fit it in somewhere. Still has 4 functiona...

Just hate to toss these if someone needs them:

Akai DR-8 HD recorder manual plus reference card for SuperView functions.

Manual for Symetrix 620 AD A/D Convertor

Let me know, it'll be shipping plus a couple bucks.

I hang around bluegrass guys sometimes, and I think it's akin to metal in a few regards -- competitive, emphasis on speed and precision. At its worst. Bluegrass attracts some guys who are incredibily focused, detail-oriented, anal-retentive and can play really fast and accurately. In my hack-player ...

Fell's Point. You're playing the Oyster Festival, apparently. The Connells, too, must be somebody my age doing the booking. We had the Fleshtones in my neighborhood last fall, that was fun.

I do like Dixon/Jones, you'll probably see me there if I don't have a gig.
