Re: light dimmer de-buzz product
thanks very much for the helpful info. the "luxtrol" variac is what i'm looking for. but i wonder if i could use their "powerstat" line for noiseless dimming as well? those seem to be more readily available and cheaper on ebay. i guess any 120v in/ 0-120v out variac would work for noiseless light di...

Re: light dimmer de-buzz product
yeah, but mood is kind of what i'm after, plus they're halogen and at full power my studio is like a stadium. could get lower watt bulb but i like having control of the dimmer for those late-nite sessions and hangovers. i just found a good article on this and studio noise in general: http://www.etha...

light dimmer de-buzz product
what do you use to debuzz your lamp dimmer? i found this "lamp debuzzing coil" on the web: http://store.yahoo.com/ylighting/ln-ldc-16-tcp.html but its $190 and makes an "audible buzz"!? go figure..at least its not in the audio signal unless you're micing in which case i'd build a soundproof box to i...

Re: my rhythm tracks suck
if you really want to simplify then using midi grooves might work best for you. i try to stay away from them cuz they're not very "original" but you can always tweak them a little to make them more original and "your own".

Re: my rhythm tracks suck
i am not sure how reason works, but on almost all sequencers both hardware and software you have a swing function. try messing with that, especially on the hhats and cymbals. try using a small hh swing, like 54%. hhs are the most robotic sounding part of a drum part on machines. also, as mentioned b...

power conditioners? opinions?
hey anybody got an opinion on power conditioning? how much should one spend on power conditioner? i have a furman pl-plus conditioner. i bought it cuz i like the lights that telescope out of the unit, but i am having some noise problems and i'm wondering if an upgrade in that area would make a diffe...

need advice buying 2-track recorder..
I would like to buy a 2 track reel to reel for my studio, and need buying advice. The purpose of the unit would be for tracking sequenced drums and live playing of HHats and tombourines in order to saturate and compress "get that nice tape sound" and for "gel-ing" instrumental arrangements. I am alr...
