well let me explain the setup i have: I'm using an echo audiofire 12 which has 12 inputs. I also have a presonus firepod with 8 inputs that I can use in conjunction with the audiofire 12 if i use apple's aggregate device setup. However the presonus is really really buggy when doing this at sample ra...

Sampling rates?

So what do you guys record at? I've got a band coming in Sunday and I know they will need at least 16 inputs. The way my setup works I can do 12 inputs at 96kHz or 20 inputs at 48kHz. Just worried about the loss in quality (dithering and aliasing) going to 48k. I know I shouldn't be worried due to t...

I agree...
I think Rilo Kiley's More Adventurous is one of the best engineered newer albums.
Also b.t.w. he was on the cover of the last issue of Tape Op. I think he's famous enough now....

yea judging by the pic in the link and the description that the original owner plugged it into his tv, I'd say it's like I said with a switch under the mat. I used to have one of those and pretty much all newer turntables designed for not-so-hi-fi systems have preamps built into them and a switch un...

well I finally got in touch with the tech. He says the element is broken and the roll off is defective and those are the two most expensive parts on the mic. Also the roll off can't be bypassed according to him so yea. They did want to charge me $25 to ship it back or scrap it for free. I had them s...

Make sure that's not one of the ones that has the switch under the mat which switches the output from phono to line in. If it's on line in and you are plugging it into a phono preamp you could get alot of noise.

The central station is great, in my studio it probably gets used more than any other piece of gear. It's got a talk back mic built in or you could plug one into it. It has two monitoring busses Cue and Main so the band can listen to something different than you. Also it's got 4 different inputs incl...

you could get a presonus central station or a mackie big knob. Both provide excellent monitoring/routing options and a talkback. I recommend the central station.

Agreed. If only we could put the drum in liquid helium then we wouldn't have to worry about viscosity...
In reality though, maybe one of those vented snares wouldn't be such a bad idea in this situation...

I do agree though if the air isn't getting out of the shell fast enough it won't sound right. I did some research a couple of years ago on snare drums and I did one calculation that showed if the air was trapped inside the drum it lowered the fundamental tone by at least 10% and dampened the head du...

are you talking about a shockwave? I think the speed of propagation of a zero order wave in a typical drumhead is on the order of 1500 m/s. I'm not sure a person can exceed that... but maybe? [quote="drumsound"]He's choking the drum. After a cretin velocity the drum just can produce any more sound. ...

If he's denting heads like crazy you should also make sure the head's properly seated before he starts bashing and use a fairly thick head like a remo emperor. I disagree with using kevlar heads, that would only make the dead sound worse (and could potentially ruin the drum if you aren't careful).

I'm not worried that it's a little less expensive, just that it might be a little cheaper...
