Re: the one mic you want most
Hey, I'm thinking of selling off my RCA 77d that is refurbed & showchromed. But business aside, it's kinda funny that for as much as I'm not partial to single point stereo, I've always been fascinated by the Soundfield Microphones . No great wonder of sound - actually very neutral for the obvious r...

Re: You know what mic is the biggest piece of shit?
Dude...the NT1-A is the biggest piece of junk. It sounds ok, for the price. A little harsh, and it definitely exaggerates the high end. At least it's one of the least noisy condensor mics I've heard. Unfortunately, they DIE for no reason. I had one crap out on me after I owned it for a week. I figur...

Re: Xiu Xiu
Yeah, that was like a couple years ago. They got all of their gear stolen in Montana, and Jamie, their main dude, ended up doing a couple of tours solo with just a guitar. I would say that that shows how great his music is, having such dense, very electronic tunes, and being able to strip them down ...

sweet.
If you could ask him what he sequenced "Crank Heart" in, that would be cool as well.
That song's totally bomb.

Man, it would be pretty awesome if Tape Op did a feature on Xiu Xiu. I think that they (or he?) embody everything that Tape Op's all about.
Speaking of, does anybody have any idea what reverb box (or VST plug) Jamie uses on his vocals? It sounds pretty crappy, but in a very good way.

Re: Getting good screams...
I like to use a cheap-ass crystal mic, like an astatic, or a harmonica mic. Then I put a shitload of gain on it. Then I gate it. If you're going for a "radio-friendly" screamo nu-metal sound, this won't work for you, but if you're looking to be brutal, this can do it. Also, I'd recommend that you le...

Re: The new Allmusic.com.... does it work for you???
SUCKS!! SUCKS!! This reminds me of when hotmail got taken over by microsoft. Back in the good 'ol days, I would type my username and password, and then I would have mail. Nowadays, I have to login, and then I'm bombarded by advertisements and fancy graphics, and I have to wait for a page to load bef...

Re: What are the most annoying things about amateur rock mix
Q. What are the most annoying things about amateur rock mixes? A. 1. When I mix the guitars too soft, and the vocals too loud. 2. That time that I ran the entire mix through a steinberg loudness maximizer. 3. When my bass drum sounds like a cardboard box. 4. That time that I used the logic stereo de...
