Re: k

I was thinking of two partitions. My ext. drives are big but my internal is 180 gigs. Do you think that's enough. I used to have 9 and 10 partitioned, but that was long before I was doing digital sound work. 180G is probably fine for 2 partitions. Basically you should shoot for a drive large enough...

You should be fine setting up your system drive with partitions for different OS versions. I've had mine partitioned 3 ways for a few years now with no problems: 9.2.2, 10.3.9, and one that I had set up for Tiger but will probably end up with Leopard instead. The only thing I would highly recommend ...

MBox 2 "PRO"

Digidesign recently released the new MBox 2 "PRO". It addresses alot of issues that should have been addressed with the original MBox 2. It's nice to see it's firewire instead of USB and also word clock was much needed. And it's only about twice as much as the MBox 2. :?

I would probably go with a G5 as the G4's are starting to get a little long in the tooth. If you do decided to stay with a G4 maybe look at upgrading the cpu in the one you already have instead of buying a newer one. I upgraded my old G4 466MHz to a dual 1.8GHz (Gigadesigns) machine and the improvem...

I like the original question.....if we could figure out exactly what PT reads than someone could break down like an mbox and make something far more portable with just the headphone jack, cutting out everything else.....I would certainly try if I knew it would work. if it were that easy it would ha...

anyone seen any update from pro app's besided Logic??? What's the point of having a stupid fast computer if it will only run its own apps? I'm not sure what you're talking about exactly, the new mac pros are shipping with Tiger installed which has all kinds of apps that run on it. If you're talking...

Re: need help with first computer software

i run a small analog 16 track studio and want to add a digital setup to transfer the 16 analog tacks into digital for editing and mixing. i went to a friends studio recently to do this for a project and was amazed at the loss of quality between the original analog and the analog signal after being ...

sonik, the point of my suggestion was that it would still require a dongle. yea I know, but the point of mine is that they make their money on hardware so a tiny USB device that acts as only a dongle is unlikely. Don't get me wrong, I would like to see this as much as anybody, but people have been ...

Good link. I wonder what it takes to generate serious consideration on Digidesign's part. I am sure many users would be more than interested in requesting the same. I frequent the digidesign site often, mainly for the discussions, but have never come across the link you posted. We should generate a...

The only downside to reamping guitar in my experience is that you lose some of the natural sustain between guitar and amp. That, and since every amp reacts differently to the gtr and how you play (or maybe it could be said that you react differently depending on what you're hearing), you can lose s...
