Fostex B-16 problem with recording on tracks 1 and 2

Anything recorded on Track 1 and sometimes 2 has issues with playback mostly with high frequencies and level dropping. I've swapped cards around but the problem does not follow the cards. I've swapped heads between a B-16 and E-16 but the problem does not follow the heads. The MRL plays back fine on...

Figured out problem 2. There is a connector header on the control board that switches between low speed and high speed capstan speed. In theory, a switch could be installed here to select from 1 of 2 capstan motor speeds. However, the dumbass that made the original mod to allow this machine to run a...

Problem 2 is now solved. Broken circuit board trace. Fixed with jumper wire.

Fostex E-16 tape counter runs at 1/2 speed

I recently picked up an E-16 on eBay in pretty darn good shape. I've cleaned it up nice and aligned and calibrated and have been able to solve almost every problem except 2 minor nuisances. 1) The tape counter runs at 30ips which means when I run the unit at the normal 15ips, it logs time at half sp...

The Charlotte Music Factory is having some sort of all day show today (Saturday).

Not going myself, but it looks like it could be cool. I'm familiar with a lot of the bands on the bill.

Chris Garges Charlotte, NC The whole album "Skylarking" always struck me as sounding wonderful. Way before I ever gave a shit about that sort of stuff either. On another totally random note, ...

I can always pick up the mexican channel on my rig (here in NC) if I do the following: Plug guitar into a passive DI in, other di parallel input direct to amp, xlr out to console, ground lifted. If I engage the ground, I get a ground loop buzz but the mexican channel goes away. Not sure how that hel...

It has a card connected to a cable which is connected to the expansion chassis. You take one of your PCI cards out and stick the card connected to the cable into the empty slot, then you start filling up the expansion chassis with PCI cards.

I disagree about the 4033. I've never used a Heil, so I cannot argue you. I have owned both a c3000 and 4033 and can definitively say the 4033 is a much hotter mic and sounds much better on everything than an c3000. The Heil may be a better choice, but, again, I can only speak to what I know. I'm a...

A C3000 is not a very good mic at all. For the same price (actually less) you could have an AT4033 which is an okay mic. Much higher output too, which probably means you could turn down your pre-amp a bit which might solve your noise problem.

forum.nuendo.com Of course, you have to own a full version of the software to not get flamed. And it's mostly Nuendo specific stuff. And I'm surprised nobody has mentioned rec.audio.pro yet. I don't go there much anymore, but I used to live there and got tons of great advice over on that board (news...

The 421 is a great mic. The best part of the 604's is that they are not a 421 when a drummer whacks one with a stick. I've got 2 421's with dented windscreens because of this, and 3 604 without dented windscreens. Does that mean teh 604's never get whacked, not by a long shot.
