if i get a wild hair was going to build a blend circuit with a little cheap preamp circuit i had laying around to blend it. how complicated does this circuit need to be? in my extreme ignorance about electronics, i was hoping it was as simple as adding a 500k pot with the input of each tank hooked ...

what are youguys driving/receivingyour accutronics with? They arent exactlly line level, and I am sure they aare an odd impedance as well. I am interestedin going this route as accutronics are super cheap and after all are the springs in most spring reverbs. my plan (i haven't actually set this up ...

i am using an accutronics reverb tank pulled from an old polytone and WOW!!! how cool and boingy that tone is. needs a bit of tweaking to make it multipurpose, but that boing of the spring is hard for digital to copy. rich i'm about to buy an accutronics reverb tank and try this. i'm considering sc...

is that really all you have to do to setup a DIY spring reverb? or am i missing something? do those $30 spring tanks (accutronics) come with usable inputs and outputs already built in? it looks like that's the case on their product info page but it's not super specific. i thought the engineering sec...

i guess a little bit of sound scattering is what i was hoping for, i know this sort of thing won't be as effective as a real QRD diffusor (in fact i'm wondering whether i should just build one of those instead). but it seems like making the front slats completely uniform would be just as bad (at hig...

thanks for the information. when you say "slot length", do you mean the vertical height of the gap between boards, or the front to back depth, or the actual horizontal length across the whole box? here are some quick diagrams illustrating my questions (sorry, but my graphic design skills do not exte...

Looking for help with a Helmholtz Slat/Slot Resonator

so i am thinking about building a big (maybe 6'w by 5'h by 8"d) helmholtz slat resonator to put in my live room directly behind where drums are usually set up. i am intending to build two or three seperate standalone boxes instead of one big one, with angled fronts so the depth of the cavity varies ...

really comes down to what kind of stuff you're predominantly going to be recording. if it remains punk stuff i wouldn't even bother upgrading anything. you have a good tape machine and some good mics (better than mine). well, other than the vague "i want things to sound good" motivation for upgradi...

thanks for the advice everyone. spending some time in a nicer studio with nicer gear sounds like it would be helpful. and i'm glad to hear these potential gear purchases aren't too extravagant this project is a whole different topic, but i do have plans to do some major acoustical treatments in the ...

Gear Reality Check, Please

i have been torturing myself about whether i should drop a bunch of cash on new recording gear, and decided it was worth getting a reality check from some other engineers here. i'm wondering whether some fancy new gear would be justified, or whether i should just be happy with what i have and save m...

i'll throw in my two cents: i've recently been wondering whether i should upgrade my monitors. i currently have a pair of Behringer Truth 2031A monitors, and because of Behringer's poor reputation, and because they are the only monitors i've ever worked on, i assumed i could benefit from upgrading. ...

Question about long unbalanced line-level runs

I'm wondering about the possibility for noise/interference/signal loss when running a line level signal (mixer inserts, direct outs to computer, etc) down a long stretch of unbalanced cable. I know the rule about guitar cables being kept under about 25ft, but does the same rule apply to line level s...
