Anybody wishing they had a project.

I played with a guy long ago that played one of these. Kind of a cool sound (though these days I’d rather have a Wurlitzer)

Re: ADVICE: send in my re20 or fix myself?

Got my antique PL20 back from BOSCH/EV today and put it up for a vocal take. Definitely clearer and a touch brighter. In the pre-repair vocal take I sounded a bit like I had a cold. The low end (of my tenor voice) had a very different character. They gutted the mic, replaced the capsule and the elec...

Re: ADVICE: send in my re20 or fix myself?

I guess because of this thread I dropped my PL20 in the mail to Bosch/EV today. It works, but I’ve had it so long I have no idea if it sounds “right” or not. When I handle the mic I can feel the internals sliding around, so it def needs an overhaul. I did a vocal with it last week on a quick demo so...

Re: Should it stay or should it go?

I have a Symetrix 501, it's on an input channel I might use for tracking bass or a room mic. Or guitar. Or something else. Not getting rid of it. I did get rid of an Orban EQ, I wasn't using that. But simple gear that's useful when tracking I'll keep. Oh, and the Orban 111b spring reverb I'm probabl...

Re: Cymbals/How far to go

Oh, and we also (we because my wife is the drummer, not me) picked up an Agop Xist 20" crash for not too much, maybe $175, it has a cool complex tone, lots of weird overtones that I like a lot. I think Agop Xist is cool stuff. My wife eventually ditched a big, medium weight vintage Zildjian ride for...

Re: Cymbals/How far to go

I'm a minor fan of Stella Mozgawa, and I think she was using a pair of 16" crashes as a hi hat at some point.

We picked up a pair of Agop "Mantra" 15" hi hats a couple years ago for a price in the $200's, apparently they go for a lot more than that now.

They're cool. But not cheap.

Re: Recording Trends/Techniques that drive you nuts

I still record to 4-track cassettes because it’s fun. Especially collab’ing with others by dropping a cassette in the mail.

If I want fidelity I use the DAW.

Re: Tweed amps

Princeton clone for $300 is working for me. From whatever I dimly remember, the modern clone with a Weber 10” sounds better than the legit real deal with an elderly 8”.

I’m happy where I am today, great sound.

Tweed amps

This may be a bit rambling, so to;dr. When I was maybe 23 I had a legit 50s Fender Tweed Princeton that I got cheap from a small local studio unloading some gear. This was in the late 80s, so it was cheap. I left it on overnight and the power transformer melted down. Local repair guy said it wasn’t ...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Custom made desk, and a gear rack from "Output". They have a similar desk but it's way too big for my space.

Re: monitor stands

I think I'll try to stick with the blocks, they are so solid.

I've got auralex mopads on top to keep the monitors from rattling on the concrete.

Re: monitor stands

They make bricks and pavers in a height that might get me to 37.75. If I stand cinderblocks end to end they're only 8x8, then I'd need 2 bricks 2.875" high to reach my desired height. So far my cinder stacks have been 8x16. Maybe then throw some fabric over them. I'm sure I'll try to work this out b...

monitor stands

I've been using a stack of cinderblocks. They're massive, and the transmit no vibration. But they're ugly, and I'm putting in a new desk, and I'm thinking... hm. Monitor stands that were maybe 8"x8" or 9"x9" would actually "look" a lot better. I need something that either is or can be adjusted to 37...
