I would advise that you check for the presence of DC voltage on the pot in question before you replace it. A leaky coupling cap can cause the problem that you're experiencing, but replacing the pot itself won't clear it up.

Your problem lies in finding a speaker that will actually be able to conduct sub-sonic frequencies like this. You may well be able to find an amplifier whose AC capacity is 0hz on up, but a speaker is another story altogether.
