Speaking of going bad, OCZ Technology got caught on two counts last week: 1. Apparently their CEO has a criminal history that has never been disclosed 2. They had been over-stating their earnings This caused the stock to plummet from over $10 a share down to around $6.80 at it's worst. It's rallying...

Re: Finale Drift like bad Fruity Loops
The only work-around I could figure is to do a midi lock with Pro Tools directly with the Finale program- Could you use Beat Detective to conform the session tempo and grid to the pre recorded audio? I'd love to, but can't do it with PT 6.4 Also, even with a tool like that, the main tracks are lega...

Finale Drift like bad Fruity Loops
I had a client in last week with midi guide tracks created with Finale. What he had was midi programmed material that he rendered as .wav file audio to be imported into Pro Tools for overdubs. Any variation- whether a simple stereo pair or individual part bounce had serious tempo drift per track- so...

So you have uncompressed stuff for 6 songs then 2 lost songs? I guess you probably could use mp3s mastering. What quality are they? 320 or higher? If you do it, make sure to inform your mastering engineer. I don't do mastering so I'm not sure what problems might be run into. I imagine it will be ha...

Don't own a commercial studio, but I'm curious. Surely you've got the studio, and possibly he more expensive individual pieces insured, no? Do these policies typically cover this kind of thing? If a client dumps a beer in the console or drops a vintage guitar, can't you just call up your "good neig...

Re: Breaks/lunch
NEVER. Whether you take a lunch break or not, you can't feasibly charge for it.goldie469 wrote:Does anybody charge for these?
For example 9 hours tracking with an hour for lunch = a bill for ten hours
Charging for set-up time is a must though.

Drumheads are hit or miss. If someone wants to use one of the drumkits we have available, they either have to buy new heads or deal with what's on there. *NOTE* this is NOT the way to produce an excellent quality record, but if the engineer doesn't give shit about the quality of the equipment, why ...

There's been a lot of discussion on this board about this topic. Resoundingly no one is willing to pay for instrument rentals and frowns upon studios trying to charge for them. The Musician Studio Needs survey shows that musicians seem to expect the studio to provide the equipment to record with how...

Re: Can anybody transfer 1" 24-track tape to digital?
I've got two reels of 1" 24-track tape that contain the entire recorded output of one of my old bands. We'd really like to have a crack at remixing it, but the studio we recorded it at disappeared ages ago, and we keep hitting brick walls on getting these things transferred to digital so we can wor...

The only software I know of that puts the ISRC's in the right place in mp3 files is Jaikoz http://www.jthink.net/jaikoz/ Most of the time the aggrigators prepare the files from supplied wav files. I work with a couple of labels that self distribute files. I prepare them with ISRC's but the bit rate...

Two things: 1. Having used mults loads in an SSL control room and using mults regularly in an in-the-box system as well, this really is academic because what I have is a patchbay-less control room right now at my place. 2. Also, this wouldn't technically be a mult (mutliple)- because a mult would b...
