Re: tape speed opinions...
Faster tape speeds usually mean the the quality improves because the same signal gets to take up more space than a slower speed, its reduces drop out and noise. As for mixdown its probably still best to use 30ips, but if you're strapped for tape lenght then use 15, I dunno how bad the quality would ...

I have an older silverface Twin Reverb('75 I think) and it sounds pretty close to what you want. Edit: An Ibanez tube screamer might emulate what u want too...

Re: altering marshall tone by swapin' tubes
Im thinking maybe build an easy diode clipper dist pedal, I did, sounds like crap, like its not distortion it clips alot weirdly, its cool though, like "overdriving a solidstate amp" or something I dunno

Re: popping with recordings
well what sound card do you use? I know you cant overload a soundblaster over -.1 because it will internally clip the signal, might that be the problem. If not then maybe a lil more specific info on why it happens, like all the time or sometimes?

Re: What Digital editing has Done to my Brain...
I think we tend to want things perfect because we now have the tools to make them like that so we feel like we have to use them. Making this perfect, makes them sterile and to a point even more imperfect. I think the drummer should be able to speed up and slow down humanly and a singer breathes, all...

Re: altering marshall tone by swapin' tubes
Fender Twins and Smaller Vox's might be what you are looking for, then you could just use an A/B box for distorted(marshall) and clean(other amp) at the end of you effects chain

Re: sticky thread for newbies?
I agree, it shouldnt be manditory to look in it if the answer is there, you should still be allowed to ask without being flamed. I think an FAQ would be a great resource for like "this effect explained" or "Mic placment techniques" The faq would cover alot of ground Im sure, but there also needs to ...

Re: sticky thread for newbies?
