not to nitpick, but directly preceding the text you quoted, i mentioned that paying $400 for a klon was ridiculous, which was really my complaint, apologies if i offended you, and perhaps a better route would be to get someone else on this board to help you out with a koln clone and get it for half...

What about the DBX 160 anybody tried it? And does it make a difference that im recording digitally. which 160 is it? the a, b, s, vu ,x ,xt? the modern 'a' is still a good box, simple to use, very nice slope for bass and low end good times. not the best vocal compressor out there, but for the money...

they sound as good as they cost. maybe. Seriously. With a room like that (Northern Track) and a good band, you could probably get by with a closet full of U47's. But I wouldn't recommend it. i'm not sure what that means, i don't even have a u47, can't justify the expense yet, but i don't have any a...

For reverbs, I like those older expensive digital boxes that no one cares about any more. Klark Teknik DN780, Lexicon PCM60, 200, Sony DPS-R7, Dynacord DPR-15. how would you characterize the sound of the Lexicon PCM60? cos i've been kinda wanting one ever since i saw the ads for it back in the day....

i've never even THOUGHT of the '69 as a 2-mix comp, but tomorrow i will patch that bitch in and maybe i will find a new friend.

i DO like distressors across the mix when i'm trying to bring it up. set with the 'Dist 3' on and at about 4-6:1 (style dependent) with a gentle attack.

get a tascam 1884 on eBay, it'll add 8 decent pre's to your LE rig plus a proper control surface. don't spend over $600 on it. spend the other $1400 on your pair of mics. the 414's would rock your face off. there's less than $2000 spent to turn your rig into a freakin' powerhouse. hell, it's a lot l...

i'm going to ask hillary to make a stomp box only forum to weed out the silly... so i picked up a lot of (3) tascam PE-250 mics on the eBay. they rock. much like a 421, but cheap and nobody remembers them except for a few mic geeks who care about obscure dynamic fun times. got the massenburg MDW par...
