Given the ADATs are racked to metal with other things that are grounded, and that they're grounded electronically via the RCA to 1/4" snake to the mackie, which is also grounded, there's little real danger in using the ground lifts, though the ebtech route is technically safer, as it covers you in t...

Small amps I love to record: -Champ (really any version that's not solid state). Great cranked. Can be very nice for rock bass guitar too. -The "Legendary" Pignose! Surprised it's not been mentioned yet. Great little trash-chucker. Had mine since ~ 1991, and it turns up on recordings about once or t...

UPDATE - So i got those ground-lifts and plugged my LX-20 into it and then in the wall. The hum seemed to go completely away. The "hiss" was a bit loud... But the hum was gone. What does this mean? And what do I need to do to fix this? This means you have (had) a ground loop. The hiss means you've ...

I'd vote for sending it in... I just replaced the foam in mine, and pulling it apart / putting it back together was trickier than I thought it would be. For $50 in labor + parts, it's pretty much worth it if you value your time at, say, $20 an hour or more. Have them replace the foam while they're i...

I'm wondering how other studios get around this problem   You'd be surprised at how common this is. Probably everybody that's ever worked in live sound or studio sound for more than a couple years has had to chase this kinda thing down. Usually the fixes are about clean wiring, minimi...

you're welcome! the ground lift I'm talking about is the 2 to 3 prong adaptor for AC power. Not UL approved, and you should NOT run this way long term for safety reasons, but it'll point you to a ground loop if you have one. also, +1 to morespaceecho's thought, especially if the mixer and / or the X...

I picked up a pair each of the blue and reds...interesting mics...Am liking them on toms (blue on rack, red on floor)...their enormous size and weird shape seem to help with off-axis rejection. So far, good for the $45 a pop :D Kick positioning is awkward at best if you're looking to get up to the b...

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1394/534348074_eea3ac633c_m.jpg Jesus! Yes! I have one of those in my junk drawer. I'll have to pull it out again. It's a vey cool odd ball mic. I've used it as an under snare mic with good success and also under the drummer's seat. I got mine for $20 at a junk store ...

Man - this sounds EXACTLY Like my situation. Those LX units are right below a Furman power conditioner! <snip> Also, the snakes are kind of coiled up on the floor because they're so long. So from the ADATs, they go down to the floor, they coil and then head up to the Mackie. The tops of the racks a...

+1 to everything noeqplease said, plus: -The LX units are unbalanced, whereas the XT's Elco connection is balanced, if the hum is due to induction from a power supply / AC lines / dimmer switches it'll be worse in the LX units than the XT (also because the LX is a -10dbV device vs. the Elco's +4dBu ...

My preference also likely lies in the fact that I really dislike heavily dampened kick drums. Emad, blankets, pillows etc.. bleh. I know plenty of drummers can get a good sound like that, but I really don't like the feeling of it behind the kit. I'm not saying this to be catty, but that's likely th...

+1 to the Voodoo Labs.

I've got the "2" version powering a half dozen DC effects and one line6 AC powered effect; it's dead clean.
