Re: vinyl collecting ( and surrounding planetary atmosphere )
Oh, gawsh shed... Soooo many. It depends on if you really mean sound, or performance, specific or irrespective of genre, etc., etc. I could fill up 20 posts. I'd bet Tony would say something similar. I will say two that are killer for both sound and performance (but very different) are Tony Williams...

Re: vinyl collecting ( and surrounding planetary atmosphere )
I had the Seeburg app. I had to ditch it due to iPhone overcrowding, but worth looking for if you're a sucker for environmental kitsch.

Re: TapeCamp at 1979: Can anyone share their experience?
My former studio associate went to Tape camp and loved it. I have not been to Tape Camp (it's on "the list" of to-do's), but I have been to three of Welcome to 1979's Engineer & Producer Recording Summits. WELL worth the price of admission and travel. I have no doubt Tape Camp is the same, only bett...

Re: List of Jazz or Soul Records that used an old drum machine?
I don't know if you'd consider it Soul or not, but it certainly has its connections... I picked-up a copy of Marley's "Natty Dread" on CD; hadn't heard it in awhile. Both that album's version of "No Woman, No Cry," and "So Jah Seh" use a Lowrey, Wurlitzer, or Mini-Pops type unit as part of the rhyth...

Re: List of Jazz or Soul Records that used an old drum machine?
Yeah Mark, I don't know how much you'll find from that era. 60's I'd think almost nothing. You mentioned Sly & the Family Stone ("Family Affair"); I think I heard that Roxy Music's "Dance Away" uses a Korg Mini Pops. I don't know what all else you'll find... If you haven't already, you might search ...

Re: List of Jazz or Soul Records that used an old drum machine?
I'm not sure of the specific "pre 808" timeline, but Jazz-wise, the Marcus Miller-produced Miles Davis material often used earlier drum machines (along the lines of a Yamaha RX7, maybe?). Cyndi Lauper/Michael Jackson covers and such...

Re: vinyl collecting ( and surrounding planetary atmosphere )
I ordered the "new" ("lost tapes") Coltrane album, "Both Directions at Once," two or three weeks ago when I heard it was coming out. I picked it up yesterday, and I'm on my third listen through of the double record set (a "deluxe" package with alternate takes is available). This is a spectacular rec...
