Re: Opening chords of "Kid A" (and other great key
As far as I know, Strawberry Fields is a Chamberlin, which is the same thing as a mellotron only Chamberlin was building them first. You can read the whole story on www.mellotron.com I'm not sure about that exact key sound for radiohead, but I can tell you that in addition to whatever synths/keys th...

Re: Boss DD-20 delay pedal
As an afterthough I should back andrew up. I was speaking in terms of trying to find a super-clean and useful Digital Delay. The DOD FX-90 is one of my favorite noise-making delays in the universe. Just don't expect to do anything clean with it. Also, you can get old Ibanez and Maxon AD-80's (the sa...

Re: Boss DD-20 delay pedal
Actually, the DD-20 does have an option to switch between +4 and -10. It also has stereo ins and outs, which is a nice feature if you're using it for recording. The "digital" setting is identical to a DD-3 or DD-5 as far as I can tell, and the "analog" setting sound surprisingly great. Not to mentio...

What are you using as a wav/sample editor now that you're using Live. I just got the demo of live but I'm quickly realizing that if I want to work with sampling I'm going to need a good wav editor for Mac.
Any suggestions?

Re: Windows in the Control Room
My bassist works at the Lodge and I got to swing by the new recording facility they're building downtown the other day. Another situation with huge windows. However, even in construction it looked and sounded beautiful.

Re: Godrich/Beck chewy sound=dumb ?s
I agree about the whole Serge Gainsbourg thing, though it's not so obvious that I would call it a rip off. And I definately feel like Sea Change gave up alot of the Beck "feel" in exchange for super slippery production. However, I think Mutations is one of his best works. Maybe it's just because it ...

Re: EVENT TR8-N Tuned Monitors-- any opinions??
I have a pair of the TR5's (I know, not the same thing at all) that I was using for a while, but aside from the serious lack of low end I also felt they failed as far as clarity. Everything seemed sort of mushy, and the stereo imaging was terrible. I recently went back to mixing through my stereo. H...

How did they get so out of hand? I remember when nobody would take the damn things even if they were being given away.
What a great pedal.

Re: Which (edit) distortion (/e) pedal would work best for m
I love the fulldrive (and fulldrive 2). That would probobly be my frist choice. However, you also can't go wrong with anything built or modded by Robert Keeley. I have a bunch of his pedals and they're all great. I especially love the Java Boost trebble booster, though mine was stolen a few months a...

I had a similar problem with the headrush. I love the pedal, but the construction is crap. Or maybe there was just a bad batch. Either way now that I've had mine gone over it sounds great.

need Meter Bridge for Soundtracs Topaz 24
just picked one of these up super cheap but without a meter bridge. I'm going to try posting here, but I figure I might just have to sell it and buy a differet one if I want a meter bridge. Any leads?

Re: Do you really have to spend big $$$$ to get good monitor
I made a similar decision. I purchased a pair of Even Tuned Reference 5's for 300 bucks and used them for about 2 months before I went back to my stereo. I'm keeping them around now simply to change things up every once in a while and give myself some perspective, but hopefully I'll be able to get a...

Re: Do you really have to spend big $$$$ to get good monitor
I hate to say so, but the answer is pretty much yes. The smaller/cheap pairs work, but a good monitor is really a precision device. Your best bet to find monitors on the cheap is to (A) figure out which models you like best and keep your eyes open for used pairs or (B) just convert your stereo syste...
