Non-drum drumsounds
I am starting a bedroom project and have neither the space nor the soundproofing for a traditional drum kit. I am wondering what substitutes there are for a "snare" sound, a "kick" a "hi-hat" etc. I would really prefer to avoid samples and drum machines altoegther if possible. I'm not expecting anyt...

Tascam m-2516 mixer
Just picked up one of these for $400...I was wondering a few things: 1. Did I get a good deal? 2. There are some funky midi automation features I'll never figure out w/o a manual. Anybody have one I can get a copy of? Or know where one is posted on the web? 3. General tips, etc. from anyone w/ exper...

Re: Studio/Music equipment insurance
I have the state farm car/renter's insurance combo as well.
It does NOT cover losses outside the home, such as mobile
recording (the agent used the example of losing a guitar
at a gig as something that would not be covered).
Just FYI.

Re: Nuclear weapons and Tape
According to everything2.com EMP is "a continuous frequency spectrum , mostly between 3hz and 30 khz". This is well below the frequency of a bias/erase head, isn't it? So tapes should be OK? Physics isn't my strong suit. The tape machines, on the other hand, will probably be fried, and in the post- ...

Nuclear weapons and Tape
This is a weird question, but here goes:
Does anyone know what the effect of EMP
would be on tapes? If it can fry computers,
can it demagnitize tape?
I'd hate to think that the world's mastertapes
won't survive a high-altitude airburst...

How do I make a barrier strip to XLR adaptor?
Just got an older Shure preamp with barrier strip outputs
(H, L, Ground (common to both channels)). Does anyone
know how to connect this up to XLR? Can I just wire the
pins or is there any funkyness with resistances or levels.
Thanks.

Re: suggestions for a console with 16 ins 16 outs on the che
The older Tascam analog boards are dirt cheap nowadays.
SECK made some decent (for the price) recording boards in
the 80's.
Either of these should be well under a grand.

Preparing a Wurlitzer for recording
I am about to record a Wurlitzer 206 (same as 200 internally). I need to adjust the action-on the bottom octave and a half a hard key hit, or pressing the key after its depressed, will muffle the sound. The action is also inconsistent from key to key. The top octave or so will do the same thing. The...
