Re: Pissing Contest

So here's a scenario. You've gained another trusting client. They want to start work on a project in your studio. Everyone in the band is pretty cool however the bass player seems to know a thing or two about recording. He's scrutinizing your every move, he's dropping names and rattling off equipme...

Re: Good Grammy show, no?

I thought last night's Grammy presentation was probably one of the best in the last 10 years. Also, I still find it amazing that even this is era of independent music and DAW home recording, that only 12,000 people vote in the Grammys. It was the same amount back in 2000. Why hasn't this number inc...

PC for Pro Tools LE -- what do you guys/gals like?

Gonna buy another machine to dedicate to a PTLE rig for archiving my vinyl. I will be recording 2 tracks @ 96/24--no plugs, no mixing, no need for crazy performance specs--just recording stereo audio into the nerd box. What I DON'T need is the latest greatest multi-thousand dollar game tower... what...

You can set up iTunes to import audio as PCM data. Just go to Itunes>preferences>general>import settings>and select wav encoder for import setting and the highest audio setting your hardware allows for playback. These days terabyte dries are cheap enough to import all audio uncompressed, so why not...

Best way to rip CDs... for archival purposes.

Over the past couple years, I've been archiving my vinyl to hard drive through ProTools at 88.2/24. It's very time consuming, but alas, a labor of love. I've got a pretty good workflow now such that I'm getting about 6-8 LPs transferred and edited per day, while still living a normal, fulfilling lif...

Re: Mixing for crappy little earbuds

More and more, people are listening to mixes on portable listening devices which are connected to their ears using crappy little earbuds (CLEs). When doing my mixes, I reference them in a variety of locations, including auto, my own monitor, home stereo, etc. I also have started referencing them vi...
