An Idea

In gear talk you should have a stickied thread for:

-Mic reviews
-Pre amp reviews
-Monitor reviews
-Outboard gear reviews

etc...

But at least those four. because it would be cool, and save people alot of time using a search function that doesn't really work.

Just an idea :|

Are the rims actually damaged in any way? If so I'd recommend getting them re-cut. You should be able to get them re-cut to how they were in the first place. Obviously re-cutting them at a different angle, or in a different way than they were before they were damaged will make them sound different, ...

Some questions about tape

You'll have to excuse my ignorance, but I really do know nothing about tape. I'm looking to sell my DAW and start up a tape based studio. This is for many reasons, but mainly because I don't like the sound of digital recording, and secondly I find having to look at the computer is a big distraction ...

I think the actual recording sounds pretty good, fairly professional at least, as you obviously don't have the best equipment/biggest budget in the world. It's fairly well mixed as well. I think the guitar does sound a little weak, kind of poppy for this kind of music. Abit of a heavier, cleaner gui...

The bass is essentially quite a reactionary instrument most of the time. I think playing with lots of different guitarists and drummers is the most important thing to do. Also listning to stuff you like and trying to figure out why the bassist is doing what he's doing, why it works, and how it works...

Anyone tryed the akg perception yet?

I'm looking for something around that price just to record ideas at home, and thought the akg perception 200 would probably be better than the other chinese made crap in that price range, but am yet to try one out.

8-Track

I'm looking for an 8-Track tape recorder (normal 'household' type tape, not reel to reel). That has preferably 8 XLR inputs, capability of simultaneous recording of 8 tracks, and phantom power. I might also consider a digital one with the same qaulities. Does anyone know of one like this. I just nee...

I see your problem. And I realised very early on the potential for that to occur. but really after a couple of years at least you shouldn't have to be taking on projects that you don't want to do. Especially if you're any good. I guess you've just got to take control of your reality. You have to oft...

markee2004,
Are you working on only your own music in your own room?
No actually, quite the reverse.

I'm afraid you're all wrong. You should approach each recording session as if it was your first, and try out lots of things initially, no matter how well you think you know your equipment. I am constantly surprised by how my equipment reacts to differnet sources, no matter how much I use it.

WELL When I was working on green days "american idiot". I got a real lesson in this, and as ever the lesson boils down to a simple truism. Get it right on the way in, or your bassically just polishing a turd. In explination get the right loud sounding guitar, and bass sounds on the way in. And don't...
