Mankinda... quick question.. Why would you want to go about deconstruct quality sounds??? :) ...reasonable question.... I should have phrased that better... What I mean is that when you're recording, its better have more and be able to cut away (edit/blend) until you achieve your art. I remember re...

He had mics for close micing and a group of mics that he would go to for a more "live" room sound. When I commented on how many mics he had up he said he now prepares this way for most sessions, that way he does'nt have to spend a bunch of time talking over each concept he can simply A/B the sound ...

I've always wanted to start singing a song in the next room--like be carrying an acoustic guitar and do the whole voice-and-acoustic parts together--and then gradually draw closer and closer to the mic, only arriving in the "right" position on the last note of the song. I will have to actually do t...

I can't get enough of George Benson's album White Rabbit... With Ron Carter and Billy Cobham (sp?)?its dynamic and lush? Don?t fear the Benson: this record happened before his tiger-striped rayon shirt era. The title track IS the "White Rabbit" you're thinking of, but you?ll forget all about Grace S...

But, time aligning something is different from phase aligning something. It may make the drum hits sound "bigger". But, it skews the SIZE of the room. It's good for an effect. And, if this "big" drum sound, with little to no "room" sound is your signature sound, then go for it. But, this technique ...

I stick a SDC on the top and an MK-319 on the bottom, blend to taste. Stick the MK-319 under the chair the player is sitting on and move around to taste. +1 - Bigtime. I had great success with an 012 on top and a 219 on the bottom. Also, go to the bathroom.... I mean record there... I got great sou...

maybe try simplifying your setup and see if you can track down the problem that way? like just use one mic as an overhead and skip the compressor. then do the same with both the kick and snare mics... i'm confused, you say the drum mics are getting mixed on the mackie but then going through 3 compr...

also, there is a thing called "tape-stretch" that you might not be familiar with. if you have already tracked drums along with guitar, bass, and everything else on your pc, you won't be able to record the drums to tape and then transfer the taped drums back to the pc. the drums won't match up with ...

..you guys are so right... I shouldn?t be second-guessing myself? I?ve been over this kind of thing before? Once, a couple months ago, after a previous recording session with this guy, I saw him outside a show handing out copies of our "one-off" recording. They were labeled "LO-FI SINGLE/DEMO" or so...

HELP - Client needs quick mix for radio

The tracks we have are good, but our goal was to use these tracks as building blocks and finish/add to them in the coming weeks/months. The tracks we have, aest...
