Re: Best pre and interface for single-channel recording

Hi all! Some quick questions for anyone who could offer a bit of advice for a relative newbie. I have been a long-time browser of these boards, and figured it was time I made my first post? For years, I?ve been content using my Boss BR-8 and the gear listed below to record. But I?m looking to step i...

Re: RME ADI-8 PRO question

This has been recommended to me to use in conjunction with my digi001 via lightpipe to expand and improve on the stock converters. I've heard good things about it but I am unclear about one thing. Does this only work at 24 bit as the specs would lead me to believe? I do use 24 bit but of course my ...

Re: Acoustic guitar strings

I was wondering if it makes that much of a difference what kind of strings you use. I use d'addario phosphour bronze lights (.012-.053), primarily for fingerpicking, but some strumming as well. The guitar's a nice guitar (a Taylor maple cutaway), but not exactly the warmest instrument. Are there an...

Re: Acoustic Guitar Miking

I'm wondering what all the experienced engineers use for miking Acoustics? I have had luck using SM81s, but am considering ordering a pair of KM184s to get a better sound in my studio. Curently I use TLM103s for acoustics, but the sound can get boomy quick. Any advice that people have would be aprp...

Dynaudio BM6 passives with a Hafler P3000 amp. Works fine, no issues, sounds great. Decent cost/performance too.

Re: CAD Microphones

Another post got me thinking... What's the deal with CAD mics? They seem to be very under the radar and I hear very little about them. Even an exhausting internet search yields very little. I don't really understand. It seems that what little information is out there is fairly positive. I read some...

Re: Your killer Digi 001 rig

I got my 001 rig almost three years ago. I'm only recording solo acoustic fingerstyle guitar. I've upgraded as follows: 1) Pendulum MDP-1A pre, Pendulum SPS-1 pre, John Hardy M-2 pre; 2) RME ADI-8 Pro converters (ADAT ==> PCI card); 3) Waves Gold Bundle, McDSP plugins; and 4) Soundcraft M4 mixer (fo...

Re: Pres with a butload of gain. . .

For the $$ you'd spend on a decent pre with higher gain, consider getting a pair of decent condenser mics. You don't need 60+dB of gain with condensers. A pair of mics would allow you to create some sort of stereo image. Coupled with the conderser sound, you will likely come up with an overall bette...
