Reaper crossfades won't work

I've been doing edits in Reaper for years by just lining up two clips where I want them and then dragging the top and tail until they overlap each other. Reaper has always automatically put a crossfade on the overlap, and I can usually eyeball it and get where I want to be fairly quickly. But today ...

The Brothers Nylon

These guys rock. Watching their videos can feel like a "greatest hits of TOMB circa '06-'08", in the best possible way. Find them on YT or BC.

Re: Archives

I too love Tapeop. "Maintained your account" is the killer for me. In late 1999 I went to "ask jeeves" on my then gf's mom's computer and stumbled across a great mag I've been reading ever since. But there have been many, many physical and digital address changes in that time. I still have ~ 90% of ...

Re: Tascam 388 Muddy Recording

Also, it's not just the heads, but everything metal in the tape path - guides, capstan - that needs cleaned. Hospital type swabs work better than standard issue q-tips. Also, can anything go wrong with tape that would effect only the recording onto it but not the playback of already-existing tracks?...

Looks like germanium transistors, so probably pnp and you might want to be sure which way to hook up the p.s.

Re: MT44D Trouble

Not sure how mechanically similar it is to the Yamaha MT8X. When you say transport controls completely stop, you mean none of the controls cause any behavior whatsoever? Or does the deck "try" to carry out the transport command and "give up"? Does the capstan motor continue to spin once the problem ...

Re: Tips for Dumping 388 > M-Track 8 > Garage Band

Also, I notice when I do a 2-track mix down via audio cable (RCA to 3.5mm headphone cable) I can get SUPER loud levels without any digital clipping. But I guess this is because I'm transferring an analog audio signal and not a digital one, right? You're talking about sending your mix to the mic inp...

Re: Tips for Dumping 388 > M-Track 8 > Garage Band

I'm very used to the analog world where you really want your VU meters just kissing the red to get the best saturation. Am I correct that in the digital world it's almost the opposite, that you want your levels quite low? The best saturation , aka distortion, aka getting as high above the noise flo...

Re: Tips for Dumping 388 > M-Track 8 > Garage Band

A lot obviously depends on your specific set-up. I have an m-audio 1010lt I've used in the past for this sort of thing, which has a "hardware control" dialog window that allows each line input/output to be set as either -10 or +4 = 0dB. Then I can set up a test tone in the DAW and do a round trip le...

Re: The drum "Wurst Mic" technique - Holy shit!

EV 665 or Senn 441 are my faves. How far it peeks over the rim of the kick determines kick/ snare balance, angling left to right balances the toms.

Teac 2A mods

The latest in my series entitled, "let's put some polish on that turd!" This is a funky little barebones mixer meant for use with the 3440. Six channels, four busses, and not much else. But it looks cool, and... well, it looks cool. That's enough. Reworking the channel Each channel has an unbalanced...

Re: Mixing Doubled Vocals

It's been a while since I read about the ADT thing, but I believe one machine was running at double speed of the other, and by coincidence the distance from record to playback heads was double as well - which was the original inspiration for developing the technique. So for instance, 30 ips machine ...

Re: Places for one off vinyl

One-off's were always cut acetates in the old days, I don't know that anyone is doing anything different now. If I'm not mistaken, play life is very low compared to pressed vinyl, as in diminishing quality with each spin. I don't think they have a very good shelf life either, as the lacquer can def...
