And did you check the cards to see if any were loose.Give them a light jiggle.Very carefully!!!!. Im no electrical expert but I always like to look at circuit boards for any bad leaky capacitors. If your willing to carefully pull the cards out and look them over,you might find a bad cap or cold sold...

One other thing you could try is to take off the card bay cover and very carefully put a little downward pressure on all the cards with a slight wiggle while doing it to make sure they're seated properly.I repeat...do this very carefully and make sure the 388 is unplugged.Some of the connections cou...

Yes the fuses could be the problem.But It also might not be.But it is always worth putting new ones in anyway. Best bet to check the belt.It could have slipped off.And like shedshrine asked...does the capstan shaft spin when the tension arms are raised?.And if you think one fuse is bad replace them all with new ones.This is something that many 388 owners do and alot of times the 388 will spring back to life....

If the tension arms are raised from having the tape loaded through them,then that will set the capstan motor spinning.This is the noise you will hear if thats the case.Its kind of like a quiet low whirring noise.
