These comments might gave been tongue-in-cheek, but... Lots of drugs. Musicians like to get high...a lot. Sometimes this becomes a problem, but it's cool to hit it for free. Unless you're made of money, the studio is a poor place to party - leave the booze/other substances out of the equation, or m...

I have mentioned the intonation part to bands often, and often they respond with "What's intonation". TONS of guitar picks. It's stupid how much a pick decides what a guitar sounds like...especially acoustic guitars. Lots of drugs. Musicians like to get high...a lot. Sometimes this becomes a problem...

Amp to compliment rectifier?
Hey guys, I have a 3 channel dual rectifier head with a marshall 1960A cabinet that I use for heavy rock stuff. I somewhat dislike the clean on it unless a really warm guitar is plugged in. I'm looking for another amp to compliment this amp. I was thinking JCM800 into a vintage 1960A cabinet with gr...

I've done this by bussing the whole drum mix (maybe minus the kick) to an 1176 on all mode and if you're using plugins in protools the digidesign "lo-fi" plug can do some cool stuff to drums. Also try the Antares Tube plug for more saturation. I have had lots of sucess making drums sound bad in a go...

I honestly do a mix of the 3 main methods. I punch in protools (I love the way protools works as far as punching...not so much for other things). I usually try to punch manually where I think everything will need punched, and the cashe punches about 4 seconds before I actually hit record, so I can m...

Why can't people just say stuff sucks?
I look for gear online often, since there's not really anywhere too close to audition things, so I tend to try to figure out what things work like from online reviews, but often I see reviews by everyday people who are trying to sell me shit. Like...oh I have this mic, so everyone else should buy on...

I modded my epiphone les paul studio by picking it up by the neck and smashing it into the floor and then driving the cleveland to buy a gibson paul studio... This really happened...and I'm really happy about it. I'm not rich, but I am in debt up to my ears, which is okay by me. At least I have cool...

Sounds awesome in a car. Sounds awesome on my home stereo. Sounds really sweet in the control room. The band loves it. I loves it. It doesn't kill the song that it's quieter in mono either. There's a really driving acoustic guitar and bassline with real drums that work the song well. The other guita...

Well they're not completely 180 out of phase. There's still hint of it mono. It sounds wicked cool no matter where you are. Even cooler in headphones. They're not so out of phase that it makes you feel like you HAVE TO LOOK LEFT RIGHT NOW. It's more like..you just can't really put your finger on whe...

Cool out of phase guitars...summed to mono
Hey guys, I'm working with a somewhat stonerish pop band right now and I have a little riffing picked guitar throughout the song. I used two mics (421 kinda close) and a CAD VS1 tube condensor out about a foot intentionally out of phase with the front. I pan them opposite (actually 100 percent...alt...
