Re: Mic suggestions for Loud guitar recording

older beta57, senn 421, senn 609, blue ball, cad e100, rode nt1

those are some mics that ive used with success. i dont think any of them are over 200, mabye the 421. we just recorded some tracks that were a 78 les paul custom through jmp with the blue ball and a 57 and they turned out great.

Re: Two mics on a kit

doesnt the band have any cables? they must use a mic when they practice! you could overdub the vox and that would free up one of your cables as well. id get one more cable and use 4 mics on drums, send bass and guitar through di. get all that and then redo bass and guitar with amps. then lay vox. th...

Re: a good mic for a loud guitar amp?

hmmm lets see.... weve been recording this heavy rock project and for the main loud guitar tone weve tried a few things. the band paid us in gear so weve taken some creative liberties with some stuff. the main guitar player uses a newer marshall head which has some of the same characteristics of the...

Re: Budget All-Purpose Microphone

a cad e-100 is another cheap, versatile, and overlooked mic. they run around 150 on ebay and work fairly well on many sources. the 421 is a pretty safe bet though for the 200$ range. or hell the new BLUE BALL mic is 200$ even, and i doubt blue is going to make a mic that is crap. i think im going to...

phantom hum?

so lately we noticed that all of our mics which require phantom we get a low hertz hum. so we pull out the trusty vu meter, turn on our phantom, get behind the board, and check out whats coming out of our lines voltage wise. 55.5v... now, could that be the cause of the hum. should a 48v phantom out ...

Re: Tracks playback out of sync.

i think jerry got the answer. the buttons on the 5050 are input (moniters inputs), sel-rep( moniters off record head), and repro( moniters of playback head). you prolly had the repro pushed in while overdubbing so you got a bit out of sync. can be used as a decent effect at times.

Re: what do you call yourself?

id have to agree with meriphew, it sounds like your an engineer to me. dont belittle yourself just because you didnt get some sorta certification in audio. if you fasilitate and "engineer" the recording of some band than you earn the title. im sure a fair portion of the more famous engineers and pro...

Re: I need your honest opinion...

i think its a fine idea! try to find out if you can get bulk foam for the cases and have templates for various pricy/collecter mics. that wa y someone with a caseless u67 can call you up and you can make one to fit his mic.
