Re: absolute beginner... trying to record vocals
so what aspect of the vocal is it missing? no mic is as sensitive as the human ear and wont be able to replicate what your ear hears. the trick is to find the mic which best acentuates the tones and timber of the source you want to be expressed. so it would help if we knew where the tone was lacking...

Re: Large Diaphragm Condensers
id either go with the blue mouse or for a little bit more a u87 on ebay but if i had 1000 bucks for a mic id prolly say screw the LDC and buy a royer or coles ribbon. the "forget the 1 mic and buy alot of cheap ones" is the option i took and while its nice to have a bunch of things i can go to, i so...

Re: questions from a 'newbie' to mastering (well, kinda newb
i tend to take verbotens route as well. mastering is somthing i would NEVER NEVER do in my studio. i have neither the room, the gear, or frankly the knowledge to do what needs to be done to an album thats being mastered. after almost every project i do i give the band a list of some mastering option...

Re: to rent out a home studio or not?
DO IT!!! what you are considering is the exact route i took in owning and operating a studio. even the gear you are using is comparable to the stuff i started with. over the last 3 years i have had many projects, learned a ton about engineering, learned a ton about running a small business, increase...

Re: Recording a Rhodes.......
i collected rhodes pianos for a while and tried recording them in various ways but the best way i found was to do exactly as soundguy stated. i split the rodes with di and use a princton reverb amp. squash that di signal as the high notes tend to be predomenatly louder. also it helps top get online ...

Re: Neutral Milk Hotel
are you refering to the huge fuzzy tone of the trcks in general or the tone of the acoustic guitar specifically? theres alot of fuzz bass on the neutral milk hotel albums which give the whole album the warm growly feel. aeroplane over the sea is by far one of my favoritly produced albums ever. to ba...
