Firepod pres are "darker" and R16 pres are "lighter"...both have detail, but I suspect the Firepod has more low end due to the rail voltage...more volts per channel...but only two channels vs. eight...I use both units for different apps.

It's...

Shift/Song>New>Exec...it may ask you if you want to save the current song...just say yes because if you say no, it won't matter because it'll save anyway.

The quickest way to get going w/ the 1680 is learning how to route input signals. One great thing about it is that you can point any input to any channel. I always liked pointing one input to all the channels, then you can quickly record different takes (ie, guitar input channel- you can record rhyt...

Mine's in a 3-rack space case with a rackmount tuner and it can be wherever I need it...it's nice to have the dedicated tuner with the U5.

I can definitely tell you that the Senn HD280s travel better than the Audio Technica ATH-M50...I have both and do many remote recordings.

Sennheiser HD280 (I think it's 280?)...travel well. The ears fold 90 degrees and sit in my laptop case and do remote gigs. I actually have the new(ish)Audio Technica headphones, but have been using the Sennheisers because they travel well...they are on my head in my avatar.
