Re: searching for an HDR
Jim Williams of AUdio Upgrades has an upgrade for the Alesis HD24 (with the fancier, new convereters) that, according to Jim, beats a RADAR in taste tests. The cost for the upgrade is $750. The converters themselves cost, like, $850, and you can find the HD25 for $1500 pretty easily, That means $310...

Application, application, application... overheads with a pair of Josephson C-42's? Loved it. Les Paul 'Deluxe' into a Fender 'Vibrolux' w/a "Nashville Tunimg"... absolute magic... Telecaster into a modified Musicman HD-130 with a 4x12" w/Weber speakers and a Royer R-121? Train wreck. I'm gonna (ap...

Re: which mic should i buy NEXT
So I need a mic whose primary uses would be lead vocals (male, mostly) and outside my kick drum, as I like to double mic it. (high spl handling, pad switch are both useful here). It'd probably also be seeing duty on guitar amps, upright bass, and maybe acoustic guitar, but I really like the bright ...

Re: The Beatles vs. The Beach Boys
>Roger, Keith and Entwistle never made the cash that Townsend made, that's why they continue(d) to tour. True. But Roger and John also loved performing. But John would've preferred to do his own stuff if it'd paid for itself; Roger likes Pete's material. >Pete and Roger were always pretty tight, Nop...

Re: The Beatles vs. The Beach Boys
If any band from that era can be said to be the starting place for rock, it's probably The Who or Jimi Hendrix Experience. Both the Beach Boys and the Beatles are much more about a pop aesthetic. Sure The Who were a devastating and influential rock combo, but one cannot deny the pop aesthetic of PT...

Re: The Beatles vs. The Beach Boys
Oh man... If you're listening to "Heroes and Villains", and you think, "This sucks, let's hear Pinball Wizard," you need to track down some weed and listen with a fresh perspective. Or you just prefer upbeat, energizing rock music to tranquilizing lullabies (and drugs) and there's not a thing wrong...

Re: The Beatles vs. The Beach Boys
I like Daltrey, it's just that I always thought he was the weak link of the band. Like Keith Relf in the Yardbirds. Jagger's still a great singer, Daltrey seems bitter and not into it. . Huh? He's the MOST into it. He's always pushed the Who, even when it looked like he might have a viable solo car...

Re: The Beatles vs. The Beach Boys
And c'mon: Jagger's voice? Much better than Daltrey, IMO. That's so crazy to me, I can't argue with it. I think Jagger is the most mealy-mouthed singer on the planet, and it makes me crazy. Almost as bad as Robert Plant. Fortunately, Jagger's not the worst melodicist in the world (see "Sway"), and ...

Re: The Beatles vs. The Beach Boys
the Stones vs. the Who is exactly like Sean Connery vs Roger Moore though. WHAAAT?!!! I suppose you could mean the Stones are foppish like Roger Moore (and I like Moore), while the Who had enormous brass balls, a la Connery, but the way the above is phrased suggests otherwise. Except for Keith, the...

Re: when bands are formed
Here's what I think... The best bands are built around a songwriter or a couple of songwriters; if that's the case then the songwriter will decide the "plan" for the band. I agree, which is probably why my band is built around me  But I do think a "plan" is a bad idea. I mean, if the Beatles'...

Re: introduce me to the new music plz
Wow - good gig! Is Careless the standout? Or is there stuff up there with it? You know, I definitely would've bought that LP last year if there was vinyl, but I went to thte site and saw no mention. Is ol' Gedgey against vinyl or what? As for KoD, I do have a bit of a blind-spot in that era. So stu...

Re: introduce me to the new music plz
Ride - shite album band. Go for the 1st 3 12"s (which'll be on best of comps), specifically the tracks 'Like a Daydream' and 'Taste'. Those are great. It's a distorted guitar thing, fey vocals and nice melodies. Cinerama - (ex Wedding Present). They do a killer version of Diamonds are Forever - dun...

Re: Boring clean guitar sound...Help.
Playing Tele & Gretsch hollowbody -> Fender Princeton amp. (w/ & w/out Moogerfooger delay in FX Send) Problem: the sound is very dull and boring (with no high end past ~4k) and all mics capture "popping" when I pick the strings (not unlike a piezo or DI popping sound.) It's not noticeable when I'm ...

I totally agree. Oddly enough, I keep wanting to hear a Badfinger-style lead guitar.prince turbo lung wrote:the slick production i actually do not mind, but the songs seem uninspired, the magic is missing. maybe the next one will be better.

Re: Which prosumer 24/96 8+ track disk recorder?
I've read about the Alesis and it sucks. I've been researching these things and everyone who uses them seems to love 'em. Stable, etc. Apparenlty Jim WIlliams (Audio Upgrades) does upgrades to the new 24/96 converters that, he says, makes 'em outperform the RADARs. Admittedly, he's not gonna say hi...
