Oh, damn, they are DB25's! I didn't even think about that. Forget my swapping-cables advice. Listen to Randyman - his shield lifting idea is a good one. And like he said: isolation transformers will probably solve your problem. They ain't cheap, though, so I'd suggest trying other stuff first. That ...

"Pro Audio" covers more than just recording, though. I work for a mostly live sound pro audio dealer in the Chicago area, and we do a lot of business with corporate clients, churches, schools, etc. The benefits* to the average church customer are pretty clear compared to a studio guy who's trying t...

Have you tried different cables between the Toft and the Apogees? I don't know what kind of snakes you're using, but what I'd try to do would be to unplug everything, then slowly start plugging things back it and see when/where the hum reappears. From there, assuming the hum appears with just one or...

On the one hand I like the theoretical utility of it - having a lossless version and a compressed version in one single file is nifty (if I'm understanding it right - the info is a bit sparse). But yeah: the marketing and description of it is hilarious. The "authenticated" bit seems like total nonse...

In terms of fills for front and center audience members... I can't figure out how I would do that if I wanted to. Whatever is pointed there is going to have to compete with the stage spillage and not spill back onto the stage itself. It just doesn't seem worth the trouble and expense just to improv...

I've heard the Zoom Ultra Fuzz referred to as a "poor man's Fuzz Factory but more useful because you can actually make it sound the same on different days." And that's about correct in my experience (disclaimer: I've never owned a Fuzz Factory but I have monkeyed with one once or twice). The Danelec...

I've taught a few one-off classes on sound design for theater - I discuss the physics of sound first by talking at the class, showing them terms and diagrams and such. I start with the very basic sine wave concept, talk about how sound waves propagate, and about amplitude and frequency and show them...

Oh, man. I had a chance to see him on what was apparently his last US tour and I decided to do something else that evening instead...I'm gonna be kicking myself about that for awhile.

The SM58 of lapel mics is the Shure WL-185, kind of big but still a favorite of the guys who do corporate shows a lot. If he's not going wireless, though, the WL-185 isn't available to him unless he wants to buy a rare TA3M-to-XLR adapter (and it ain't just an "adapter" in the traditional sense - i...

I just typed a long reply, then re-read your original post and realized you weren't planning on going wireless. Which is good - that actually makes your options much better. Wireless is definitely not more affordable than you imagine unless we have very different definitions of "affordable." I got a...

So I've been reading up a little more on this here and there, and I discovered an unfortunate thing that might throw a wrench into the Qu-16/24 idea (from the Qu-24 MIDI protocol manual): MIDI communicates via: USB ? Rear panel USB B port for direct connection to Apple Mac computers running OSX 10.6...

Ok this is going to sound like a total noob question.... So have mercy. What is the difference between motorized faders and non-motorized (manual?) faders. Im assuming, if I set automation on a track and listen back the fader will not move with my set automation?... But you know what happens when y...
