Re: I’m about to record some drums, help me not screw it up
It looks like I was wrong about the untreated ceiling! You can see though that we have one treated wall opposing an untreated cement wall. Could this mess up a the side mic in an m/s setup? https://i.postimg.cc/NGZ3bz6z/3-BCA5-A61-AE9-F-4-A5-A-BE9-B-EEB5-BB09208-B.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/z3mFWWRx/3...

Re: I’m about to record some drums, help me not screw it up
Would it be worth it to angle the kit in the room to keep the reflections of narrow walls equidistant, or is that overthinking it? I like that drum sound a lot, and the music is great! Is this one of yours? Listen in mono (on one speaker if possible) I can do that, but out of curiosity, why is is on...

This is all gold so far, thanks y’all. Maybe mid/side low in front of the kit is a better option so that I can avoid more of the ceiling reflections? It might even allow me to work in more of the snare mic.

I’m about to record some drums, help me not screw it up
I have 4 tracks in progress, all with ez drummer tracks that I am having a drummer replace. His room is treated and pretty dead, except for the typical low ceiling that I don’t believe has been treated at all. The material is all over the place, two tracks will feature acoustic guitar, and eventuall...

Re: how much snare do you want (or not want) in your overheads
You guys have been a lot of help. I’m going to move this discussion into a new thread, as I’ve actually got a session coming up next week.

Re: how much snare do you want (or not want) in your overheads
Have you ever heard a Telefunken m80 on the shell of a snare though?

Re: how much snare do you want (or not want) in your overheads
It sounds like it might be worth a try, although I don’t have a pair, so placement would be trickier.

Re: how much snare do you want (or not want) in your overheads
I wonder about positioning a hypercardioid (say an m160) above the hats and pointing them at the toms and ride in order to get less snare and and less hats t'boot...

Re: I don't need another ribbon...or do I?
I just have an m160, and I'm torn between getting another one or getting an m130. I suppose the m130 would offer more options, but the two m160s might be nice for drums overheads. Then again, m260s on s jecklin disc in front of a kit is probably pretty sexy too. Haha, now I remember why I stopped re...

Re: Name 3 core mics
I have a Warm 47jr, a fairly recent purchase that is light years ahead of my previous ldc options. My m160 ribbon was a solid purchase of course. Who doesn’t love those? For dynamics, I love my m88, although a m201 might make for a better all rounder. I don’t know, I don’t have one. Still, I would k...

Really? Why do I need these? What are they going to tell me that the DT770s aren’t?

They’re still playing in a few different incarnations. Cella joining the Squirrel Nut Zippers has slowed them down a bit.

Re: Watts going ohm?
Thanks for the info folks! That video was really informative too. The 250 ohm version seems to be what I need. Fine for cutting vocals, keeping me honest on the tops, working harder on the mids, and maybe even getting an accurate read on the bass? And all while luxuriating in velour? Sold!

Re: Watts going ohm?
That’s good to know. What are you plugging them into? I see you’re from Austin, you wouldn’t know The White Ghost Shivers, would you?
