Re: electrical engineering education/knowledge

If you want audio electronics knowledge, school for electronics is not gonna get you there. I would recommend groupdiy.com. There is a Meta Meta thread there that covers everything you would want to know about audio electronics, from which end of the soldering iron to hold, to how to build a neve co...

Re: MARIK mod on Cascade Vin-Jet ribbon

I’ve known Marik for many years (>10), he does great work, and knows what's what. On the other side of the pond( if you are tuning in from there), Stewart at xaudia also knows what he’s on about. I also have a repair business at Ulrigg Ribbons( repair.ulrigg.com ). Many of the issues with these mics...

Re: Amek BC2 BCII Buss Assignment Routing

You’ll have to put jumper wires in to replace the cut traces. You can carefully scrape off the solder mask(the green, typically) over the traces to expose the copper to solder to, or put wires from components along the trace( in the case from the switch pins to the next solderable point on the trace...

Re: Amek BC2 BCII Buss Assignment Routing

Two things. One, you need to trace down what pins the stereo signal is sent to on the working module, so you know where you are missing signal. Secondly, the working module has a pan defeat switch, which the non working module does not. My question is what happens on the non working module? When rou...

ShinyB: I think ya wanted to say, "Some sources are asymmetric, naturally." Or, "Some sources are not symmetrical, naturally." (You just witnessed my OCD in action.)
Hahaha, thanks!

How am I not myself?

Re: looking an uneven WAV files

Some sources are asymetric, naturally.

due to relative phase/frequency relationships, in other cases, 'positive air pressure bias' (think vocals, horns, etc.)

So from the part number, it's an audio taper dual 10K, measure another one with an ohm meter, and figure out where the wiper is, go from there.

Board broken?

Hey,

Everytime I click on any link, I'm prompted for a user and password (like if you are trying to view someones profilie).

The secret handshake doesn't work, nor my normal login credentials.

any one else?

Makes the board pretty much broken.

Coles might be the exception, not a true dipole as the rear sounds much different than the front. I'll beg to differ on that. Some ribbon designs manipulate the polar response through the use of varying acoustic labyrinths, but the 4038 is not one of them. The 4038 does a respectable job of maintai...

Switching to a shockmount as opposed to the L bracket was the primary change.

Starting in 2008, all 46MXC's were ribboned by me, prior to that, the ribbons were installed overseas.

And yes, use of 6 micron ribbon material (despite the marketing claim that 2 micron material is being used) reduces sensitivity compared to thinner material. To me, the thicker ribbon makes the microphone 2 dimensional and slow. Retension to your hearts content, it still blows IMO. Jacking the tran...
