YOu need to check with you ears not your eyes. Pan both OH channels to one side so it's easier to hear one-speaker mono. Flip the phase on one channel. Listen to see if it starts to sound thin and the low end. if it sounds really thin your OHs are out of phase. If the sound disappears totally they a...

Do you have any snares at the studio? You could ask him to try one of those. You could also ask him to let you re-tune the drum so the band can hear a comparison. You can also mix to the sound of that drum instead of mixing the sound of the drum to the sound in you head and the other sounds on tape....

Re: Wiki is more than a "hip name"
This is an interesting idea, but isn't this board that same type of thing without the "hip name?" I've never been to any of the wiki sites... While this board is very useful for finding information, I think that a wiki has its advantages. First off, unlike the entries of a message board, the inform...

The Traditionals are neat, but kind of like a Line 6 is to a real amp. Oh man, do I disagree. If you buy a Traditional expecting to get an old K, you're being naive. But they are very unique, musical, and useful cymbals. Some are definitely cooler than others, but as a line, they're pretty hip. Chr...

Its a buyer's market as far as tape decks are concerned. Find a machine that doesn't need heads, but still get a re-lap done when you get it. 1/4" re-lap is pretty affordable. JRF is considered the best place to have it done. They did my MCI 2" when I bought it and I got a full report back with it t...

I don't know if it's true M/S but I read a "non-decoder" way a while back. You mult the side mic (figure 8) and flip the phase on the mult. Each of those channels feed the same stereo source panned hard L/R as the mid (cardioid) mic panned center. Then while mixing you can control the width by adjus...
