Nice score indeed!!! I would just order a newbelt. Its an easy install. As for the caps, thats was something I have never tried until recently, but when I got around to having a go at it,it wasn't that hard. A good soldering iron a solder sucker and some rosin core solder are all you'll need. Check you...

The brown oxide side of the tape faces the heads.
As for the reels???
It looks like the tape on the right reel is threaded to the wrong side????
Im not sure if what Im seeing in the picture is actually possible physically.
Try unspooling the right reel and thread it so the tape is on the outside.

Thanks Shed!!!! Those sounds are coming from a thing called a photo theremin. Its just a little box with a bunch of knobs for pitch, rate,LFO and has a switch for tri and square wave.It has a little photo cell that you just wave your hand over to manipulate it.Think Jimmy Page. Its a pretty cool litt...

Well if something got dropped on the pitch control,I would open'er up and take a look. The knob is probably soldered to a PCB.If something got dropped on the knob,it could have fractured the solder joints. And over time they could get worse. This could lead to the speed issue. If your comfortable taking...

Whats going on with the tape speed?
Is it kind of a warbling type thing????
If the belt is old, stretched, worn out,you will not have a consistent tape speed.
How old is the belt???
Have you changed it recently?.If not, give that a try.

I just went from the right master output fron the korg to a line in on the 388.Armed track 8 and recorded. Then I was able to play that back to listen to while...

OK, after enlarging the video, it seems to me that you have not selected a bus to send your signal. Please follow the steps outlined several posts earlier. Yeah...I was keeping a close eye on that too.But to my eyes it does look like he has the 1/2 button down. But testing the line input for signal...

Ok.Just to double check...You plugged a mic into the 3 pin XLR socket on the back.Set the switch to mic, turned up the trim, pushed 1/2 button down, made sure all red l/r buttons are up,turned pan fully left and pushed the rec 1 button. and nothing....

Also.Have you checked all 8 inputs?????

If you dont have an xlr cable, you can test the line inputs by using something like an electronic keyboard if you have one with 1/4 jacks. The preamp on the keyboard would boost the signal for the line level jack. Just make sure the switch is set to line. And again,if you are using an xlr cable make s...

OK. In that vid it now looks like your tension arms are up way too high.Looks like its threaded wrong. Also I noticed when you were checking for signal you have a quarter inch cable plugged in.If you are plugging ino the 1/4 inch input jack the trim knob has no effect at all on that. What you need t...
