+1 on the 488.
One more option, if you have access to a mixer, is a Tascam 238. It's a standalone 8 track cassette recorder.

When:before each session. What:use 99% anhydrous alcohol, as you don't want any water in it. (anhydrous means "without water") The side of q-tips, you don't need to scrub really hard.
