The easy answer is that your manager should be able to help with stuff like that. You do have management or PR of some kind right? Usually you'll need them to help solicit and plug your material to the college stations.

So bands like the Meters & Poppa Grows Funk would be included? Weird man because they laid the ROOTS for funk and now to be part of the "revival". Huh, go figure! I didn't think that as style funk ever went away, it just ebbs & flows up to the mainstream once in a while and then disappears. Kinda li...

I always loved that tune. (And I love the fact that Otto is always humming it.) That and "Hocus Pocus" by Focus. Oh gawd...does anyone remember the 80's shred guy who covered "Hocus Pocus"? What the hell was his name? Anyway I thought his version wasn't as cool as the original, that whole yodelling...

How do you keep it all cataloged & orginized? Or is your collection like Harvey Pekar from American Splendor? LOL

I had seen the Dead plenty of times and eventually came to the conclusion that I really liked the Jerry Garcia Band a whole lot better, "How Sweet it is" is a really good live record. I think the JGBand had better musicianship and much better backing vocals. 'Ya know, the JGB is still touring with ...

FS/FT: Brand new still in plastic SM900 2"x2500'!!!

Hola, I managed to snag half a dozen reels of Emtech SM900 in January when Quantegy went under. Due to some changes in business my JH-24 had been sitting in storage for the previous six months and I actually just sold the beastie...so I think I should let this little stash out to places where it's n...

It's not just the one band...I saw a whole display of them at either Borders or Barnes & Noble. That DRM crap is also on the new Trey Anastasio CD and that bummed me out a little because I wanted to listen to it.

Whatever. It's not like either Trey or Sony need my $1.75!

As far as the comment about "upgrade the software, it's been 8 years", there are some studios (and i probably subscribe to this theory at times myself) that believe "if it aint broke, don't fix it". A studio I deal with a lot still uses Orchestrator Pro for much of his tracking and initial mixing.....

First off, yah...you need to leave a vented door on the furnace room. It needs the intake and closing it off is not only a bad idea...but you'd probably fail inspection. Is there a chance that you could rip down the drop ceiling put in a standard drywall ceiling with fiberglass above it? It'll sound...

Oh - another idea: Here in frosty Minnesota I have heard of the practice of heating a sauna with a modified electric water heater. This would be the cylindrical type of water heater. Basically you cut the top off (with a sawzall)... Can I just say that's possibly an extremely dangerous thing to try...

I've done almost the same thing as John Noll, but I place the omni right over the kick drum and under the ride cymbal...just about where the drummers knee is. Then you can try putting the second mic overhead, in the kick or maybe where John places it. That might make for a cool stereo image.

They don't have to hit 0VU, but if the acoustic guitar isn't making them move that means the level is below -20dBVU. That's low enough that you might run into some noise problems down the line or might not have enough reserve to get it above other instruments in the mix. I'd turn it up a bit and try...

Whuddabout compression or EQ for natural harp? I don't have a problem with the GreenBullet > guitaramp rig but I can never get natural harp to sound right or sit in a mix. It's either too dull, too brash or too "pokey" and jumps out on one phrase and is buried on the next.

One of the best line's I've ever heard came from my buddy Greg Thompson when he was working at my old shop; "You can do whatever you want and call it art, but I don't like it" IMO, the biggest problem in the tiny studio (or anywhere really) is a big ego. "My way or the highway". Sure...that can work...

One thing to consider is the mastering engineers "style". Some of 'em are pretty hands off and what you get back pretty much sounds like what you sent in. Other ME's put their huge personal stamp all over the mixes and some of 'em are really good at shaping & salvage work. There are a couple of peop...
