Otari MX5050

Someone offered me an Otari MX5050 1/4" 2-track. I currently mix either to a Tascam CDRW700 or an Tascam DA-20MKII. Anyone mix to this machine ever? It runs at 15 or 30 and has no NR. What do you think? Should I get it? $250. Thanks y'all...

Mackie something-or-other

Many years ago, I was sitting in on a mixing session for a friend's record and the engineer had this thing, it was computer-based and he ran his tracks into from his tape deck (level and pan only, no EQ he said) and was able to record his moves and recall them. It has a small board with it, maybe ei...

Re: Throw some bass ideas at me...

Thanks for the ideas. I dig the distortion trick, though I'd imagine I'll have to be riding the faders in some sections, as the music does have quiet bits. Tell me, is there an easy way to flip phase on an old analog board? Also, the board has HF 12kHz/8kHz and LF 120Hz/80Hz switches, but I'll be go...

Throw some bass ideas at me...

I'm mixing a band and need to find a way to make the bass a little more clear and present in the mix. The band plays, for the most part, a loud rock-based music. The bass sounds like it was recorded well, great player, signal is good on the tape, it's just when everything is together that I sort of ...

Re: Where should my levels be?

Thanks for the replies. I don't have many options, as I'm on a deadline, but thought maybe I could mix to both the DAT and CD and let the mastering engineer decide. Do you suppose I could connect the DAT to the CDRW via the digital ins and outs and mix to both simultaneously?

Re: Where should my levels be?

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I'm mixing from analog.

Jeff, so would you suggest that I mix to DAT rather than to the CD burner? I don't have access to a working analog deck nor a computer right now.

Where should my levels be?

I'm mixing to a Tascam CDRW700 CD burner. I'll be sending the mixes to be mastered. Where should it be peaking so the mastering engineer has something good to work with?

Re: CDRW700 / DA-20

Thanks, Professor. The masters are going straight to the mastering engineer. I guess I should ask him which he prefers.

What do you mix to?

CDRW700 / DA-20

Which do you suppose would be better to mix to? These are my two options at the moment, a Tascam CDRW700 CD burner and a Tascam DA-20MKII DAT machine. I'm mixing this week and already have the CDR700, but someone offered me the DA-20 for cheap and I'd like to know what you think. I'm mixing from ana...
