I think to older cats like Herb Ellis that swinging isn't about intellectualizing it. It's almost intangible. Anyway, I'm writing this in hopes of everyone realizing that writing about swinging is even farther removed from actual swinging than not swinging in the first place. Reading posts by drumm...

I'm going to move this thread along from the Beatles to Herb Ellis. I read an interview with Mr. Ellis where he is asked about playing with musicians who couldn't swing. He said that everybody thinks they can swing, even if they can't. They just can't hear and feel how they're not swinging. It's aki...

I realize you [subatomic pieces] didn't imply that. My apologies.

Oh, hey... look... it's another great thread about how things aren't as cool as they used to be. If you can't be bothered to seek out good music, or if it just seems so much easier to complain about crap as if it represented ALL of "today's music", then honestly, your opinion of "today's music" is ...

I'm not on the cutting edge of what's out there today, especially in the so-called indie rock scene. That being said, Penny Lane is what comes to mind when I do hear some indie rock band's new song, a lot of the time, anyway. The 1/4 note push is all over the place today. . I don't remember hearing ...

Thanks for the helpful information. Would you concure that there may be no need of adjustment? It's possible that you could just pop the new 6V6's in. There's an audible difference in how a tube biased at 50% m.p.d and at 70%m.p.d. sound, though. There's no way of knowing without measuring what's g...

Also, it's the the bias point for the tubes you need, not the amp. Tung Sol 6V6 have a max. plate dissipation of 12 watts. If you bias them at 60% of m.p.d. [ a good starting point] you'd get 7.2 watts. Divide this by your plate voltage and you'll get the cathode current you'll want. If your plate v...

I saw at least two moments where Rog's mouth didn't match what was supposedly coming out of it. I am not exactly sure what to conclude; since his voice was really rough on the first number and then got better--so did he just warm up a bit, or did they just bail on the live vocal at some point and g...

I'm not an EE, so bear with me here. I can see how unshielded xformer could cause hum in the unit itself, but how is the lack of shielding in an unconnected box causing a hum in the MOTU unit? That's what gets me. It sounded like I was holding a light saber. There's some electromagnetic weirdness g...
