Re: best way to really learn compression
if you have some real drums recorded onto a computer, you can loop them instead of using a drum machine. I think drum machine sounds are already kinda compressed. that said, drum machines are beautiful things to have around for things just like this - need a constant signal but dont wanna listen to ...

Re: mono drum overhead vs. miking every piece?
the one thing I've finally started to do that's helped get better drum sounds across multiple songs in the same session is move the mics for the song. If you only have three mics up and one song has lots of toms, and the rest dont you might need to move the mic's focus for that song. I know I do. ma...

Re: new beerbelly mix
holy sweet chunk guitar batman!
I dig all of the sounds except the vocals. maybe double it the whole time? it sounds good in the chorus (?). of course, just my dumb ears.
I think hall and oates records sound great so maybe dont listen to me.

Re: Need Ears to Check Mix
I agree with Letter M. the fuzzy warm guitar sounds great. I'd turn it up personally. I also agree that maybe the cymbals are a little loud but the ride is perfect for the section at 2:26. the high-hat seems to be getting in the way of the vocals during the first two versus. Oh, I really like the so...

Re: two new home-recorded songs from The Energy
untitled2: the mix sounds good. the bass sound great. I love that sound. the drums too, although the cymbals are kinda harsh. only thing in general is that the song seems warm but the mix is kinda cold. what did you mix down to? if you have a two track to mix down to hiting it kinda hard would help....

Re: need critiques!
Sounds great. I love the organ and the guitar. really nice work. how long did you work on it? personal tastes would beef up the bass guitar and the snare. I agree, a tube would suit your voice well. you have a really sweet voice and maybe it just needs a little roughin up. what about swapping some o...
