Re: can someone please give me the definition of Class A?
Class-D. digital in a sense. but thats all I know..this is also rare. rare in pro audio likely, but not rare at all in the rest of the world. Class D amplifiers have the highest practical power efficiency, so they are used in new battery powered stuff. Like cell phones, some mp3 players, etc... i.e...

Re: Would a 50' XLR snake mess with the sound that much?
There's a 1600 foot run of ultra-low capacitance cable between a performance hall and the control room at the UT Fine Arts facility. At one time, they ran phantom powered mics with this setup. I haven't heard the results, but apparently it was useable. Now they have a remote controlled preamp that s...

Re: SUB KICK DIY layout
anyone care to add anything else? I tried it with a 4 - 5" woofer from a set of computer speakers, and the built-in preamps on a Tascam MX-2524. With the bare speaker inside a kick drum, resting on the bottom, I heard the most bizzare sound. It was very compressed, looong sustain, and the pitch see...

Re: what are mxl mics copied from?
I don't really know, and I believe my MXL v57m is anand exception - it sounds outstanding. It was A/B'd with a dozen or so others, it was the cream of the crop. If I had to compare it, I'd say it comes closest to my experiances with a Shure KSM32. Really? what were you miking with it? I felt gypped...

Re: SUB KICK DIY layout
If you aren't getting a good sound out of your speaker mic, try a different preamp. I found that Tascam preamps sounded better than high-end preamps that I tried (AMEK, Daking)... although this was a while ago and my memory is fuzzy.

what mic preamps do you use with the speaker mic? Do some preamps respond better than others?

Re: how do i get that effect...
try flipping the polarity of one channel of the drum track. in stereo, it will sound like it's coming from a different space outside the rest of the mix. you lose mono compatibility this way.

Re: Speaker Wire ---> TS end??
You could also try diggin back a little further up the signal path to catch the signal before the power amplifier. That might be hard to do if you're non-technical, or it might be surprisingly easy if it is in a separate housing within the organ. Be careful. Don't electrocute yourself! If it's a va...

Re: Adding RCA inputs to a little boombox
The CD-to-cassette adapter is your best bet. the rest of this post is total conjecture, somebody please jump in if I'm being misleading... if you feel like getting your hands dirty, cut the wires to the tape playback head and solder on some input jacks. Since a tape head is a coil of wire (like half...

Re: how do i get that effect...
without hearing what you're talking about, I'll make some guesses: maybe they used drum samples that were recorded with a distant mic. or maybe it was a very short, wet reverb. stereo phase trickery w/ a short reverb can give the impression of the drums being far away. if the sound is diffused into ...

Re: Analog mixer users - what do you 2-track to?
One studio I work at is DAW-less, and they mix simultaneously to a Tascam CD burner and a DAT deck. Another studio mixes to GP9 on an ATR 102 1/2" at 30 ips (no NR) or 15 ips (Dolby SR), and simultaneously brings the mix back into PT so it can be treated with L3. That lets the artist take home a pse...
