Re: Mixes: Monitor, Rough, Final
My band does rough mixes, then you can actually listen more closly to the song as a whole than you would if you were playing it. This helps arrangment problems and helps finds "holes" in the sound. After that its easier to record good mixes.

Re: MORE tape machine tragedy...
hows the quality of the tape you run through the machine? did you try recording to a different roll of tape? A bad roll may be the problem if it only drops out in spots, if not then there may be a bad solder connection inside or something easily fixed

Re: How do you feel about antares mic modeler
Ive had luck with it on stereo files with Cool Edit Pro, but Im sure its only because of the way it handles plug-ins (Probably does each stereo side as a seperate input) because I know in Orion Platinum it wont process stereo input

Re: How do you feel about antares mic modeler
i sort of like the drive section too (is that what it's called? it's been a while) Antares makes another plug-in called Tube that has a nice warm model and a tube distortion model, its pretty cool, but I don't use it all that often. I'd like to try it on some vocal tracks for a slight distorted sou...

Re: recording cover songs
Im from the LA are scene and I think its easier for people here to spot it, I know bands who have had major problems from stealing lyrics for their songs.

How do you feel about antares mic modeler
I know its just a really glorified eq but how do you guys feel about its quality? I think it makes improvments in the sound of vocals and such... and plus what are the chances of finding a telefunken u47?

Re: recording cover songs
if its on a recording and you're selling it for profit, its very very illegal, and if the artist or record companies were dicks then you'd get slapped with a fine. I think most recordings copyrights run out after 50-75 years if they arent renewed, which doesnt make a big deal if the songs are new. A...

Re: How do I know what Radio Shack stuff to snag?
I would think u could just run it thru a normal mic preamp or something like that, I havent see schmatics for a preamp before online, just pedals and guitar amps.
Edit:But I am looking for one, building your own are so much cheaper

Re: How do like the Shure PG mic kit?
I dont know much about the drum set but the PG series in general are good mics if you're on a budget. I would reccomend them, but I think a higher quality kick and overhead mic always make any set sound bigger. Edit: Samson makes a 5 mic kit for $200, I dunno about the quality, anyone have any comme...
