So you have 7 hours to track one song. If you find yourselves done an hour or two early, you may wanna consider doing some live takes just to try it out. Something like: Kick Snare Ov L Ov R Bass Guitar Guitar Vocals Even though it'll bleed all over the place, you'll capture a genuine performance, a...

Well, that was what I was trying to get to with my long, unfocused ramble- you can put each EP as it is finished up on Amazon/iTunes to be downloaded at a significantly cheaper price than a full-length, and then when you have a few done, you can press up 2 or 3 on the same CD. I like that approach ...

I use Logic Pro 7, and have been doing so for about 3 years. I have a Novation ReMote that I use with it that makes life awesome. I've been reluctant to switch to 8 because the last time I checked I couldn't confirm that there is an OS update for my Novation that makes the automap compatible. While ...

Does someone make a plain ole' 8-Channel lightpipe I/O?
As in the only things on the box are single ADAT I/Os and Firewire/USB2.0 to connect it to a PC? I know M-Audio makes the lightbridge, and I'll consider it, but it's overkill for what I'd be doing.

I just finished his label's compilation, which is the first album he's done. He tipped me $170, which was nice. He used to work for Swishahouse, so he's going to down to Houston this weekend to hang out and show off his stuff. So not pro, but he's workin on it. We made the final 2-tracks at the stud...

Since the last time I checked this thread, I've had time to get to know the guy and he's a really down to earth dude (or G). Yeah, he did some bad shit and did his time, but he doesn't rip people off, doesn't do drugs, is a vegetarian, takes care of a kid and has an office-type job at a gym(!) durin...

The first time I ever made coffee was while I was an intern at a studio. There was a keyboard player doing overdubs and he wanted "a cup of coffee." I went upstairs, pulled out the bag, read the instructions and scooped out enough to make exactly one cup. I didn't want to waste any. I wasn't expecti...

Re: ups and downs of working with gangsta clients
Eventually I'll just stop driving there and they'll have to come to the studio I work at. Are you sure that's what oyu want? 20 or so people stopping by your place randomly and knowing what gear you have and where it's located? hmmm... Yep, I'm sure. It's arguably the best studio in the area. Studi...

ups and downs of working with gangsta clients
One thing I've learned as a young audio engineer is that there's a shitload of money in rap music. I wasn't quite pulling in enough to pay the bills when I was recording bands that barely have enough money to pay their own bills, but since I've started working on rap music I've made some pretty good...

I must be the only person who uses Logic Pro 7 to write beats. So I write the beats in there, bounce the tracks down and import them into a PT session to do vocals (anyone who has ever used Logic Pro with digidesign hardware knows how much of a pain in the ass to keep the DAE working properly). I've...

I decided quite a long time ago that I was going to be a recording engineer. I had no interest in working a non-music related job. I also discovered very quickly that I hate doing live sound. So I gave myself little choice but to do it. I wanted a four year degree, so I got a Bachelor's in Music w/ ...

I'm 100% sure the douchebags who are saying amps sound better than modelers wouldn't be able to consistantly pick out which is which in blind tests.. Somebody please put some good samples up and let these suckers put their money where their big fat mouths are! It depends on what you record. I've he...
