I don't have direct experience with the Mac mini, but I still run pt11/etc 24/96k on my 2010 Mac pro (quad 2.8, 16gb ram), which is hardly the fastest anymore, no problems. Hope that helps. I'm currently running a dual processor G5 with no problems, I just don't have access to newer software. I sup...

New mac mini?
So has anyone tried the new mac mini as a DAW around here? I was just getting ready to pull the trigger on the last generation when they released the new ones. I know there are a lot of things that aren't as nice like the soldered in RAM and the lack of a firewire port forcing me to use yet another ...

Re: space echo hell
Yikes, I hope you figured out a way to take care of that chip. That sucks. So I need to do a better job of cleaning up after myself. I found a tiny solder ball on the power supply board so I removed that and the repeat rate works now. Now I need to check the bias etc. Do you think it's possible to ...

Re: space echo hell
So I've been meaning to post an update for a couple of days..... I've got things mostly working with the delay now...... I found a tiny solder ball that was shorting out one end of a cap on the echo board. So now everything works except for the repeat rate function. I'm going to check the power sup...

Ozite makes that stuff, I've always heard it referred to as Ozite, but I just looked and they make a lot of other stuff too. http://www.ozite.com/products/commercial/speaker-covers/ I used to work at a pro audio repair shop and after about a year they built me a nice bench to replace the card table ...

Yeah, Q8 on the echo board, I think where you're talking about is actually part of the motor control circuit of the last power supply board version, you had me confused for a while because mine only has one Q8. Q9 is the output buffer right before the attenuator switch, it's working because you have...

Ok, the fact that your reverb works says that jumper is in the right place, it jumps from input amps to the reverb stage on the schematic. Q8 is make up gain before the output stage/mixer, you should have wet audio there (I'm not sure you'd hear motor noise there, it's probably power supply ripple, ...

If you crank the intensity all the way up does the meter move from self oscillation and you just aren't hearing it at the output? I hate to say this, but grab the parts placement diagram and make sure you didn't accidentally put a wrong value cap on a transistor gain stage because it could seriously...

I have a Juno 106, it's under your budget and even the stuck voice thing is easily replaced/repaired now so the one major problem with that synth is easily dealt with now. The biggest problems with it now are the lack of an arpeggiator (which the 60 had) and that it sounds thin and phasey in monopho...

Have you tried a more efficient speaker for the Ruby? Might just be all the difference you need. I'm not sure what happens if you try to drive an LM386 directly into the output of a second, but I think I'd try to avoid that if possible. However, you should be able build two of them and set them up ...

You can still pick up things like the Shure M67 really cheap and once you beef up the power supply and do a few little tweaks they're perfect for what you're doing. I also have a pair of M267s that I really love and have become the cornerstone of my drum sound because I really love the limiter. I'm ...

How can I use my old macs in the studio?
So I'm planning on buying a new Mac mini in the somewhat near future. My current recording rig is a G5 2.3 dual processor, I also have one of the last G4 powerbooks and my wife's old first intel macbook pro. I was thinking about just putting my powerbook over with all my synths to run sequences, but...

After sleeping on it, I think I can phrase my question(s) more specifically. I know I can impedance-balance the output by switching to a 3-pin connector, and connecting the cold leg to ground through an appropriately valued resistor. But "impedance balancing" in this case refers to balancing the im...

Have you tried the Tiny Giant? I'm worried that 8 watts, or whatever it is is going to be too loud. I tried a 15 watter that I got from a TOMBer and it's way too loud. I think I'm looking for more like 2 watts. The Ruby is just a tad anemic for what I'm after. Anyone know of a two watt solid state ...
