The grill should just pop off once you have removed the three screws. Try a small blade screwdriver.

Looks like an unbalanced "harmonica mic connector". Is the mic high impedance?

I'd probably convert to balanced XLR and consider fitting a low impedance ribbon transformer such as those made by Edcor.

Many multimeters don't have a good enough frequency response to measure audio frequencies correctly.

Try using suitable meter / test set.

Get a refund. Raise a claim in Ebay or Paypal.

The capsules are very expensive and that is most likely to be the problem.

You can probably leave the grounds permanantly connected as long as no ground loops arise. A DPDT will allow you to switch the hot and cold either to your loop, or straight to your output socket. However, I'm not too sure about having the return from the loop permanently hanging on the output jack t...

They can sound like that when the ribbon is "rubbing".

If it was sold as working, and you have confirmed that the fault is coming from the mic, then get your money back. You can use Ebay/Paypal to open a dispute if they say no.

Try contacting Beyer if you end up having to repair the mic.

If you connect the earths of two devices together - one balanced power and one not, then you partly defeat the purpose regarding safety.

Do you know what the Furman unit does with your mains earth? I should maybe take a look at the manual.

I'd just like to quote the Wikipedia page referred to above here: The condition: The signal obtained from this reconstruction process will have no frequencies higher than one-half the sampling frequency. This reconstructed signal will match the original signal if the original signal contains no freq...

But what if the sound I recorded was a triangle wave? If the D-to-A converter turns that into a sine wave, then it's doing something wrong and taking away harmonics that should be there. If you recorded a 24KHz triangle wave at 48KHz sample rate, then you would get a 24KHz sine wave after DA conver...

So let's say I'm recording a 22.05kHz sine wave at 44.1kHz sample rate, and by pure dumb luck, my wave peaks line up with the sample timing, and I actually get one sample at each peak, top, bottom, top, bottom, etc. When that wave is redrawn, will it be redrawn as a sine wave, or a triangle wave? T...

The original Soundstar (the X1N) is similar to the MD421 and is art-deco looking.

The later Soundstar MKII is a bog-standard (but probably good) vocal mic.

Sounds like your capsule has gone.

6 micron must have sounded pretty shit.

I've used thicker foil in the past and it sounded muddy and boomy, and I don't think it was as thick as that.

I wonder how many people replace transformers on some of these Chinese mics trying to clear up the sound when the foil used is already utter crap?
