This would be my pretty hi-fi "bare minimum". If you really don't care much about the sound, just use whatever you have as much as you can, until the sound starts to annoy you! For acoustic guitar and voice, (big assumption!) I would say you really only need a mic that sounds good on your voice, and...

I had contacted Gefell about doing the mod, and they just said to send it to Germany, as any of their North American service places would just forward it to them. I guess that's how it is now... I actually had Marik do the XLR conversion for my mics.. I haven't got them back yet, but I was happy to ...

I like quickbooks for PC. Takes a while to get set up, but its pretty good for keeping on top of who's paid and who hasn't. All the report functions are really cool for budgeting too. It gets me by...

I'm pretty sure I own the nady/ peluso u47 version honkyjonk sold me. Its a very good sounding and handy mic with all the patterns... I used it on figure 8 for a live-off-the-floor vocal, with the null pointed towards the drum set and a blanket around the sides and back. The vocalist loved the sound...

Just for the record, I wanted to state that I find that TL Audio console totally hideous.

For the most part though I'm just trying to avoid this thread because it makes me want things.

Thanks for the reply.

Apparently Joe isn't in the business anymore; the website says he is referring everyone to JRF, who didn't reply to my email and seem kind of pricey anyway. Any other suggestions?

i tend to like dynamics on the top and/or condensers on the bottom. i use AT 4040's on the bottom of toms whenever i have the extra channels. i'm sure you can make do with either on top though. i'd go for the RE20 out of the gate because it probably won't overdrive the input of your preamps though.

wowza i used to have the hard drives at the studio set up for raid mirroring but the performance was really, really bad. so, next year i'm going to recommend that each client brings their own portable drive for daily backups. doesn't really take that long... and it could save the day! glad to hear e...

+1 on objectivity, dwlb... its really hard to hear whats good when you're listening to a take you just did. hardest part about recording yourself, and one of the rare cases where i'll get behind piling up a few takes (3-5?), and comp them at home a few days later.

when I have to comp stuff I have the artist sit there and do it with me - and make every decision. I just act as their hand, in doing it. They direct me. There have been people who asked me, after doing 17 takes, to "put the best ones together", then left the room. I don't mind someone asking if th...

New cymbals - PAISTE Twenty and MEINL Byzance

I just tried out of some of these new cymbal lines from two companies which I usually dislike. Both lines are awesome! The Meinl's can have a bit of a trashy Wuhan type sound but its actually cool... I played a Paiste Twenty 18" crash today which sounded just phenomenal, blew away the K customs that...
