Re: Join The Get A Life Club

Okay, as long as you don't talk recording with the dog. And I'm not up for any babysitting.

I stopped drinking a few months back so this will be interesting (not drinking, that is).

Happy New Year to ALL!

Join The Get A Life Club

If I see anyone posting on here after 9 PM west coast time they will be banned from the message board! Go out and do something, it's New Year's Eve. And if you see me out tonight don't talk to me about recording!!!

Re: What is the best low cost direct box?

You don't have to have a kit to build it! Just use the the circuit he provided!

Re: What is the best low cost direct box?

What about Scott Hampton's JFET project in the last issue. That makes a really good DI ( I Have one) and is active.

Re: Has a new zine replaced the old TapeOp 4-track aesthetic

We keep meaning to do a second book but it ain't a high priority. Why? It's a ton of work and doesn't generate much income for the mag. Plus we'd need releases from all the writers, photographer, etc. If and when we do it though, it will probably be articles from issues 11-20 or so. The stuff in the...

Re: Has a new zine replaced the old TapeOp 4-track aesthetic

Whatever you think Tape Op is or isn't doing seems to be subjective on this thread. One person said there was nothing so far on people in major studios doing creative stuff (huh?) and others say we don't talk about home recording (huh?). It's all in there plus more, and it will always change as time...

Re: Thanks From Larry Crane

There will be a picture of the "Trophy" in the next Tape Op, Jan 15 or so. No, we weren't hurtin' for any meals. Donations are nice, I just donated a ton of audio gear to a non-profit that's gonna teach kids to make their own music and record here in Portland. Pretty cool thing, but not as important...

Re: stupidest/worst mistake you've made in a session

Unless you're in destructive record a few taps of control+Z could have helped a few sessions above, couldn't they? Lying is true. If you don't hit record and they ask to hear it tell them you were still setting levels and that the sounds were too hot at the beginning of the take. Usually this is tru...

Re: Nirvana "Bleach"

Thanks to Jack for setting the record straight. I'me very glad no one has ever printed the budget of records I've done on the back. I believe Jack told me once that it was Sub Pop's idea, which is in line with other BS manouvers they pull. Blame the myth making on them! Jack was just a guy offering ...

Re: stupidest/worst mistake you've made in a session

I was recording something I had written (rare day that was) a while back and was using Pro Tools because I was trying out some drum track software. I came up with all kinds of cool overdubs on the spot and then PT crashed. Had I saved it? Not one bit. I had to re-record all the parts really fast bef...

Re: Has a new zine replaced the old TapeOp 4-track aesthetic

I think Leigh and Bear said it better than I could. Yes, things have changed along the way with technology and gear. We reflect this, that's our gig you know. It's like the time someone cornered me at AES or NAMM and went on about how Tape Op needs to address audio quality and stop people from recor...

Re: Thanks From Larry Crane

Since it looks like a new SM57 I keep thinking about using it on snare as all mine are 8-9 years old! Is that wrong?

Re: Has a new zine replaced the old TapeOp 4-track aesthetic

Hey, If you got something to say just spit it out. I sure wish someone would explain to me what my ethics are, how they apply to the mag and how they've changed over time. I can't say I know. If another mag arrives that covers something we're totally missing out on let me know (I'll subscribe), but ...

Thanks From Larry Crane

Many thanks to a bunch of you regular Message Board contributors for the present you sent me last week! Everyone needs a SM57 appreciation trophy in their studio! I'm humbled and honored. Happy Holidays to everyone, and may the New Year be another good one!
