Didn't Satriani have a big instrumental hit? I don't remember what it's called, I just remember it was awful.

While that 'zombie' might be an instrumental, I don't think it qualifies as a song.

What about "Axel F.'s Theme"?

One of the last big ones from my school days was that "N-n-n-n-Nineteen! Nineteen!" song. "In WWII, the average age of a soldier was 25; in Vietnam, it was... N-n-n-nineteen!" Who was that?

"Dueling Banjos!" "Chariots of Fire!" A lot of the big instrumentals came from Film and Television (Peter Gunn, the Pink Panther, etc. )... A point was made during the Oscars after the third "Enchanted" crap number - not many "songs" are written for film anymore. It's either big orchestral soundscap...

In that Pete Anderson interview in TapeOp, he used the term "tape rinse," i.e. do the mix in ProTools but shuttle it over to tape and then back into the computer. I guess it adds a little hiss and tape compression. Certainly you can afford and old Teac deck and a couple reels that get reused just fo...

*NEWFLASH* The debut Moby Grape album was remastered and reissued by Sundaze last fall - but that prick Katz has already had them pulled. He's really one of the biggest knobs in rock history... I wonder if the remastering made the difference? http://strawberry-flats.blogspot.com/2008/01/goodbye-grap...

I only use silk & steel or silk & bronze strings, for this reason. If the string is squeaking, change the strings.

Wasn't digital supposed to get rid of tape hiss?

Maybe try mixing to tape and see if you like the real deal... It's also good for archiving, btw.

You might be better off hunting down like an M-Audio Audio Buddy or something... might be easier/cheaper to get a phantom powered pre than try to fix it?

There's loads of tape compression on the backing tracks, but I think it sounds pretty 'old timey' by and large.

The country idea is a good one - a hot tatooed brunette singing faux patsy cline with Jack white producing = $$$$.

Will the Amy Winehouse record change the public's taste?

I'm wondering if the huge success of her "Back to Black" will alter the public's perception of what a "good" sounding record sounds like... the Ronson/Roth production is solid but quite fuzzy and obviously based on older sounds and techniques. Will more records that sound like this slip by, or is it...

Not to ask an idiot question, but you do know there's a little switch on the back panel that turns on the phantom? Just checking.
