I think a google search using "guitar player" along with "red coat" of "patriot" may lead to pretty tech-heavy reviews of the red coat and patriot speaker line that guitar player did a while back(2005 maybe?) That said, I did see an ad for the new Eddie Van Halen model Celestion speaker in the new i...

There are a few mid/early nineties records that came to mind when I saw this thread. First off, Gentleman by The Afghan Whigs. This record may be as well I think a band ever managed to get every bit of poential out of a record. It's usually in a dead heat with Big Star's Third record in that respect...

There's actually a point where I started to think it was going to dawn on Ken Andrews that if the you can almost make an all computer mix sound like an analog mix, why wouldn't you just mix on an analog setup instead? He also comes off like a robot. Who wants Yul Brenner in Westworld working on thei...

Other than that being a funny clip, who cares? I loved it when Ashlee Simpson's lip-syncing was exposed on SNL, but that's because she was(is) a non-or-crappy musician intentionally deceiving the audience about what was she was doing (which still opens the controversial question "who cares?"). The ...

I know quite a few folks are figuring this for some sort of clocking/sample rate sort of mishap. However, I'm pretty sure that this is a case of a lone insturment tuned a half step low. If anyone recalls the Freddy Mercury tribute concert, something nearly identical to this happens during an all-sta...

Maybe it would be possible to start a discussion on the subject by saying you think there may be flaws in the tracks that lead you to believe that tracking another set would be a good idea? Do the band seem like the easy going type? Do they seem like they'd throw a hissy if you were straight with th...

I've always hoped that someone would come up with an emoticon that would convey glasses being pushed back in a nerdy fashion. that would be awesome. the thing about emoticons is they kinda ruin deadpan/sarcastic humor...sometimes ya gotta risk being misinterpreted in the interests of comedy. i've r...

Man, I knew I was inviting some banjo jokes. I've gotta say that I think the banjo gets a bad rap. A nice sounding instrument in the right hands can be a great thing. I just recorded an excellent acoustic band with a heavy bluegrass influence that was really driven by the banjo player, who was tota...

Sorry, Chris; that banjo comment was my lame attempt at a joke: I meant "seven o' clock" as in "turned all the way down." Rest assured, my next attempt at comedy will either be better written or have an emoticon. That being said, thanks for yet another generous helping of insight. That was serious....

While I can't say I have any hard data to back it up, I do believe that an old copy of Back in Black I had on 8 track gorilla stomps any other version of that release in any format. As for tape vs. digital, I'd say tape has a lot of things going for it that I don't think digital ever will. I've neve...

interesting, roy. is there any benefit to doing this instead of what i've been doing, which is simply connecting a volume pedal between the organ and the amp? i'm still waiting on those transistors; hopefully they'll work. on a DIY side note, I was walking my dog yesterday morning and happened by a...

Thanks everybody! On a side note that may interest you, #30, I'm trying to get this thing to behave because I'm going to sit in on keyboards etc. with Li'l Cap'n Travis at their CD release party on Saturday. It should be fun. That being said, I also started cleaning out this old Moog/Cordovox "Whit...

You might want to check www.combo-organ.com. The spares and repairs section has some information on tuning and cleaning key contacts. I think there may even be an individual section on tuning specifics for various brands of organ.
