Re: Dual CPU Audio Apps
Steinberg's SX 2.0 and above and Nuendo 2 and above. I'm also a registered Cakewalk user, and version 3.1 now fully supports dual cpus, according to some spam they just sent me. I bought into Acid and Soundforge as well, but I don't think they are dual aware, although win2k or xp pro will off load s...

Re: Athlon 64 vs Pentium 4 HT?
Hi, My name is mrc and I'm a gear slut. I broke yesterday, and bought a Barton and msi board. I'm gonna push the 333 chip to 400 and get 3200 cheap. I can feel a software purchase coming on as well, so I can use my old duallie system to run vst stuff. Oh man, 5+ghz with fxteleport waz just too much ...

Re: Athlon 64 vs Pentium 4 HT?
HT is best left off for audio applications. Steinberg and now Sonar 3.1 balance the load with dual processor systems. Duallies kick ass. There is a Tyan Tiger dual 64 bit board for under $250, but I haven't heard how it works with audio, yet.

Re: computer hard disk question(PC)
Hi, It's best to just set the minumum and maximum on the temp ram memory the same, so windows doesn't keep adjusting it. There is a recommended size, and I'm sorry I'm on the way out the door for Denver. I'll look it up and post it when I return if no one else has. I'm going to bet microsofts advice...

Re: computer hard disk question(PC)
Hi, Sata drives rule Ide. They have a burst rate of 150, though on todays pci busses your results may vary. With 8 meg of cache on a faster drive like the Maxtor ATA 133, 160 meg drive, I've seen reports of as high as 175 audio tracks. The Sata's should be faster than that. Anything over 256 megs of...

Re: Is there any editing use I can put old (96) pc to?
Hi, If it has windoze 95 on it, it has a limitation of around 2 gigs per partition. The drives that are in it would also be extremely slow, and the processors that came with 95 were 300 mhz or less. On the other hand it will work to surf the net with or hold a door open. As cheap as computers are no...

Re: 2 Power Supplys Idea (and a HDD question)
The key word was EXTRA fans. I'm running a 160 gig os, apps and samples drive, and a pair of 60 gigs in raid array 1 along with dual 1 gig cpu's. Also Cd, CDRW and floppy drives. I was fine with a case fan and the ps exhausting, but I added an extra out flow and a pair of in flow fans that are on th...

Re: Man o' man, I don't know what to do. Help a newb please.
Since price doesn't seem to be an object, I bought one of the first group ofRME Hammerfalls here in the US, I upgraded a little chip in it, and it's worked flawlessly across several motherboard/cpu combinations, and OS's, starting with the original win 98, up to XP SP1 today. I use not only the adat...

Re: 2 Power Supplys Idea (and a HDD question)
A larger power supply is a good idea, although I do power extra case fans with an adjustable voltage wall wart. Just a little voltage drop slows them a bit, the slightly slower speeds really lowers the fan noise, and eases the strain on the computers' power supply to handle the cpu's and several har...

galgola 1, It seems like you've been doing it for a while, and it sounds like maybe you need more than the Seasound offered. It's always best to view what you're doing, and what you think you might be doing in the reasonable future. It's usually cheapest to buy good gear the first time. If you are a...

Re: please suggest an great alternative to cooledit pro
I tried N Track a long time ago, and it was just fine. The only thing I would wonder is how the sound engine compares to SX or SL 2.x? There is a big difference in even sx 1.x and 2, let alone cubase 3.5 through 5.6. I tried N Track during the 3.x era of Cubase and they sounded much alike. I doubt, ...

Re: please suggest an great alternative to cooledit pro
Hi, Steinberg has a slightly cut back edition of SX called SL and there is an upgrade path. $299.00 :) http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/sid=040220130625207177065097997222/g=home/search/detail/base_id/111002 I think they lowered the number of VST instruments to something like 8 and removed the mid...

Re: please suggest an great alternative to cooledit pro
With ASIO card support, Cubase or Nuendo are really the top programs for PC. I started with Cakewalk, but the audio side of Cubase is much better IMHO. I also bought Acid, and I do use it for loops, but I don't think it really stands up to Sonar or Cubase as a multitrack program. I just export the f...
