I've done this on so many records. it's fun, and easy, but yes, definitely get them to sound like a drum machine at the source. use a 40 wire snare. 15 bucks at gc. take the heads off of all the drums and put a thin piece of t shirt under the heads, then put them back on. kinda difficult, but fun. o...

make sure everything is mixed in the room. Amps are at a relative volume to what you want them to be in the mix. you can even set the amps up where you want them in the mix.
