ah, I'm not replacing these. I want these in my friend's newer les paul "classic" which he just had some really bad tech put p90s in. I really would like to get NOS caps but, haven't found any yet. thanks so much for the help. I found some used on ebay and i'm going to give them a shot.

I've done this on so many records. it's fun, and easy, but yes, definitely get them to sound like a drum machine at the source. use a 40 wire snare. 15 bucks at gc. take the heads off of all the drums and put a thin piece of t shirt under the heads, then put them back on. kinda difficult, but fun. o...

I felt the neumann cmv563 sounded much like a u47. I believe it has the same capsule, not positive though.

make sure everything is mixed in the room. Amps are at a relative volume to what you want them to be in the mix. you can even set the amps up where you want them in the mix. Guitars on each side of the drums, bass in front of the kick since it will be in mono. you may end up with some phase issues. ...

I do! i lovem. but, not in stereo(which would be cool, but sooo expensive). I'll put one above the kit over the kick drum pointed at the snare. not very high. about eye level. just where the drums sound good and balanced.

all great advice. thank you all. This has been very encouraging. I just picked up a mini tour with a band from fla, and one of the booking agents here in town is now interested in doing booking for us out of town. So, it may work out just fine. Love you guys
